| If you are talking about breeding directly to DTF .....>> On a long term basis you go with the most successful, oldest or deceased stallion. The number of breedings to him in the past 5 years has been at a minimum and they are bound to eventually run out of frozen semen ... lol
This would leave you with a potential stud or super bred mare for the future.. |

| I would double check AQHA rules. I've heard that this is the last year that offspring from deceased stallions will be register-able. So if DTF is an option and his foal crop from 2016 can be registered, I would jump on it! |

I believe that rule applies to horses born in 2015 or 2016 and later, not existing deceased stallions. |

| So I can register foal born in 16 or 17 if I don't get her in foal this yr ? I would not breed to him if I can't get it registered |

You can breed to him and register it no problem. The new rule only applies to the future frozen semen of stud colts BORN this year and after. All other studs are still registerable, deceased or not.

Location: Texas | the new rule applies for stallions born I think 2016 or after.. Basically, once THEY die, they will have a limited time to use their frozen semen before they can't anymore, like a year or two, something like that.
Any stallion currently standing, alive or dead, is not included in this rule. there is no expiration date on their semen once they die.

| If I'm going to spend the money to breed to DTF is it better to lease or buy an embryo from a proven own daughter of something great ? |

| Where would be the best place to start looking for an embryo or one to lease? Also thought about going to heritage place to find a proven mare. On the lease the owner could keep mare and I would pay all expenses for the time she is in foal is that usually how it works ? |

I would get in touch with Bendi Dunn the owner of Mulberry Canyon Moon. To see what stallions she is planning on and what she is doing with her embryos this coming year ....
