I've noticed a lot more barrel saddles lately that are hard seats and I've been wanting to try one because I've always ridden in a padded seat. I was just wondering if there was very much of a feel difference between them? Which do you prefer and why? Thanks!

I've never thought that padded seats have made a difference. Your butt is going to hurt after riding for a certain amount of time either way.

I've had both and like both lol. so that doesn't help much. I have a new saddle on order. Its a ranch cutter, I ordered it all smooth out and hard seat. I rode in a friends and fell in love. As long as you keep it oiled I'm told the slick seat isn't that slick, when I rode in hers it wasn't "slick" like you'd think. I'm super excited. This way if it gets rained on its not a mess cleaning it up. With a padded/suede seat it is harder to clean.

I have to have a padded seat. I like the memory foam in the JJ saddles it saves the skin over the pelvic bone.

The people who had both, my question is the seat size. Do the non padded seats fit bigger?

Thats what I was told, I was going to get one but after riding in a non padded seat I change my mind, the dealer told me that a non padded seat was going to fit a tad bigger.

I just got a Martin FX3 with a hard seat and wish I would have gotten it in a 14 vs a 14.5. It is way bigger than the padded one I originally tried. I can't say if I like it yet as I have only ridden in it 2 times but it is comfy.
