For a Martin. Cash's back has grown so much since last spring when I got my Meleta. It's getting to the point where I feel it might be a *little* tight up front. He's been swishing his tail a little when I cinch him up and just not seeming 100% comfortable (yes this is the one with KS which is actually better than ever-he's doing very well health wise).

So anyways I've really been looking at a Martin because I believe wholeheartedly in keeping saddles off the horses' shoulders. I did get a chance to put an 8" gullet Crown C on him (but did not ride in because a. it's WAY too small for me and b. I didn't get permission to actually ride in it.) If I feel underneath it without cinching it up the pressure feels really even front to back, despite it being a tiff wide, without a pad at least. I'll just attach a link to the album. I took pics of him w/o a saddle, with the crown c just set on him, with a shim, and with a 1 1/4" wool pad. When I cinch him up and lead him around the arena, I put my hand under the front of the saddle on both sides (right under the front concho) and make him walk so I can feel his shoulder. There's pressure (obviously) but it doesn't hurt. The only time the pressure becomes even mildly uncomfortable is when I turn his head around and make walk a tight circle around me with my hand under there. It seems like a Martin will be a good choice for him but I'm not sure if I should stick with the 8" gullet or go up a half size just in case he fills out a little more (he is REALLY well muscled over his topline. He will always have a little dip behind his shoulders just because he has MASSIVE shoulders and that's the way he's built, but there's very little to no atrophy anywhere along his topline). FYI I plan to use a CSI pad with the new saddle.

You would need to try the different sizes on your horse to see what fits. Martin does have a demo program.

From your fb pictures it honestly looks pretty nice and balanced to me with and without the saddle pad on

Im no barrel racer saddle expert.. I dont think you need bigger.. is he using such a thick pad due to KS?
you said you use a 1  1/4 inch pad? the back is up slightly is why I dont think he needs wider in front.

That pad belongs to the owner of that saddle. My personal pad is 3/4" I just didn't have it handy when I borrowed the saddle.
