I have a really nice mare I got recently, I know the Sire (they never papered him but he could have been) he's local, and I know the Dam is local as well. I'd really like to get this mare tested but have never gone through the process before.

Do I need blood samples or fair from each parent? And what will the results tell me, will it tell me her Dams bloodlines since they're unknown?

If the mare has any registered foals her DNA should already be on file. Not sure on when "all" stallions have to be tested by.

Do you have a Breeders Certificate for the "foal"? That will be the first thing you will need.

I went back & read your post again, what are you wanting to know or find out?

I believe you would have to DNA test the stud, register him first before you can DNA test your horse and register her, this is if the mares DNA is on file.

Not sure if they still have the sale on if they don't it will be over 3k

I don't plan on breeding her, she is 7 she's turning out to be a very fast open barrel horse, I just wanted to send the Dams DNA to see what the Dams bloodlines are

AQHA's testing only determines if the horse is really by and out of the parents it's suppose to be. You can't find the parents with a DNA test through AQHA.

This is or was correct when I contacted AQHA several years back.
