Hey everybody!

I was wondering if anyone has had luck in leasing a nice barrel horse. I have searched all over and find it almost virtually impossible to find someone offering a horse for lease. I do not want to buy as I am leaving for vet school in a year and don't want a second horse just sitting, like my mare will already be once I leave. Knowing me, I will refuse to sell when that time comes so that's why I am opting to finding a lease.

Just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck finding one. I am in Florida and everyone I have asked says they'd rather just sell outright.

Thanks!

I dont think just any body is going to be leasing their good barrel horses out, to much time and money in a really good barrel horse, like someone told you they would rather sell then lease, if leasing they take a chance on getting back a blown are hurt horse. Its better to buy, just the way I see it.

yup I figured, I mean I feel the same way about my own. Which is why I would rather see her sit than get leased out for the 4 years I'm gone. But I know of a few that have had success so I am just hoping for the right horse to come along that I could run for a year

If you already have one, is she hurt and you are just looking for a temporary lease while she's healing?  I'm looking for someone to ride my horse (not a lease!) but you are too far away.

Oh no my horse is fine I am just wanting a second horse to run but without the commitment of owning it since I will be going out of state in a year and can't afford to keep two and get myself through vet school! I don't have the heart to sell horses I get attached to so that's why I am trying to avoid buying one and then having to sell.

I leased the mare in my profile pic for 6 years, put all the training on her, won a lot on her. Her owner and I had a really good relationaship though. She's retired now though and will be a broodmare this spring. We just paid for her shoes and her owner paid everything else. 2D/3D barrel horse, showed everything else as well, champion halter/showmanship horse, 22/23 second pole horse (with LIGHT work/hauling, I am not a pole bender), did western pleasure/reining/trail etc. All of that I taught her. She knew basics when I started with her.

I had a great experience with leasing a barrel horse. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to lease a mare for 6 months, the lady I leased from was pregnant and wanted to get used rather than sit while she was pregnant. I was very lucky to be chosen to lease her amazing athlete! It was an off site lease, she was to be taken care of as my own. Her shoes, worming, everything she needed I paid for and the monthly lease payment. She was great to work with, I asked her for advise how to ride her mare better, told her how our runs went, everything. I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity. Soon after the 6 month lease was up she went back to her owner, I still had opportunities to ride her when she wasn't riding her, we called them "playdates"????Then she gave me the chance to buy her. It was a struggle to find the money but I did end up purchasing her. More than thankful for the opportunity I had & for being able to own such an amazing athlete. That was my super experience with leasing a barrel horse??
