Who has dealt with it and how did you treat it? Was it expensive? Were you able to get rid of it permanently?

A horse I rode for someone had it. She could be a real pain to bridle at times. From what I read online and asked my vet there hasn't been much success with any treatment. Basically it's just something you deal with.

My horse has this and we haven't been able to get rid of it. I just unbuckle the bridle so I don't bend his ear and it never seems to bother him. He let's me touch his ears and put Swat or other ointments on it, so I haven't worried about it. He only seems to care when you bend the ear, so I just avoid that.

I battled this on my mare this summer. she had them pretty bad in her right ear. My vet sedated her and scraped them down, then I treated them with Derma-Vet (prescribed salve). It doesn't go away, but cleaning them and treating them made it better. she used to swing her head so hard she'd knock the air out of me. now she just shakes her head a little when I bridle her. also, keep a fly mask with ears on whenever possible, if you have flies out still. its transmitted by them and will help.
