Please tell me what you have had good luck (and bad) with for mares heat cycles that are effecting their personailies, attention span, moods ect.

I bought an OTT mare that was ran on the injectable form of Regu-mate (starts with an A) and they said it a made a huge difference. I would like to put her on an oral supp that just helps, not takes away the heat cycles themselves..

Thank you.

I know several people, aside from myself, that have used mare magic and have seen no improvements. Some have even said it made their mares worse. I had my 5 year old on Regumate this summer and it made a massive improvement in her personality, however it's easy to forget, a bit of a hassle, and has some serious side effects if you should spill it on yourself. An equal alternative to regumate is injectable progesterone, it's the same as regumate however you administer it once a week via IM instead of daily through the mouth. If you chose to go with regumate, I highly recommend investing in an oral doser so that you have less chance of exposing yourself to it. Regumate and progesterone is also a bit tricky, you have to be sure you administer it as soon as their heat cycle ends. Should you give it when they have a follicle they will actually stay in heat for as long as you keep administering them with the regumate/progesterone, so you have to administer it with care or with the help of a veterinarian.  The good thing about the regumate/progesterone is they tend to cycle soon after they've been taken off of it, so if you'd like your mare to still cycle you can have some control over it, this way she wont be cycling during a big event.  I've heard good things about Oxy-Mare as well, however have yet to try it myself. I hope this helps :)

Your mare was probably on Altrenogest. My mare is on it and I can't ever imagine taking her off. I tried Mare Magic and Silver Linig Herbs before and they did little to help her. Altrenogest is easy and not too expensive...worth its weight in gold!

I tried mare moods and it did not help at all.  I tried Mare Magic and it helped a little bit, but not enough to make that big of a difference (however, I feed Mare Magic to my gelding becuase he can get kind of 'studdy' when a mare is in heat and it has calmed him down tremendously).  Right now I'm using chasetree berry leaves on my mare and it has made a world of difference.  My vet recommended it.  She said she's heard that it works better than the raspberry leaves (which is what Mare Magic is).

Mare-aculous is a progressive formula designed to assist "Those" mares into becoming "That" amazing mare- the mare you knew she could become. This formula is extremely FAST acting with changes in as little as a week.
Mare-aculous assists in regulating the reproductive system.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I'd find out for sure what she was on and the dosage, and keep her on it. I sold a mare with reproductive issues that were managed a specific way. I spent the time figuring out the issue and what she needed, but the buyer wanted to try something different. The mare went back to her old ways and we bought her back. Sold her again, and same story with that owner. What works for some mares won't work on others. I've tried the injectible and just didn't get consistent results. Regumate is what I use and have had the best results with on multiple mares.
