Has anyone ever built a homemade horse walker? My husband is a welder/fabricator and is extremely handy and smart. He says he knows how to build one but i'm curious about thoughts/opinions/advice from anyone who has ever built one. I'm very curious how much we are talking about in cost. I need one really bad because with my 2 year old twins i just don't have much time to ride but we are also on an extremely limited budget due to the twins lol.

Most of them I've seen I thought were home built!!!! Now I'm curious what a "real" one looks like!!!

I've had several "home made" walkers and loved them. The problem is getting the gear ratios so the horse is not walking too fast or too slow. The best one I had was built using a school bus rear end and transmission. I think it was a half horse power motor, but could be wrong. The speed is also determined by the size of the pulley wheels. I had a very slow walk I never used, a relaxed walk to cool the horse off and an easy trot speed I didn't use much due to the size of the circle. I could also reverse directions. I got it used in the early 70's and wore it out around 2010.
