Location: Missouri | I am currently treating with Pyrimethamine/Sulfadiazine.
Is Red Cell a good supplement option?
I'm worried b/c if the folic acid content (7mg/oz) Is this too much?
How much vitamin E should be supplemented?
Anything else?
Found this helpful, but doesn't give amounts:
It should be given according to an accurate animal weight. Supplementation with folic acid to avoid anemia is controversial. This drug must be given at least one hour before food. The horse should be monitored monthly by blood tests for anemia, as 22% of the horses in the clinical study became anemic.“The combination of pyrimethamine, and sulfa may cause anemia, decreased platelets, decreased white blood cell counts, and suppress bone marrow. Pyrimethamine should be used with extreme caution in animals with blood dyscrasias or bone marrow suppression,” indicates Wedgewood Pharmacy.

Thank you. I contacted them but am a bit worried as their supplement actually targets the protozoa (if I understood correctly)
I wonder how he will tolerate the Rx plus additional treatment? He's already not feeling well...

| Elevate maintenance Vitamin E, they also make Elevate W.S. but it has to be ordered by a vet. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | Vitamin E is a must when treating EPM I do 5,000 IE twice a day
and any time I treat for EPM add Alcar for nerve damage and Immune Key to boost their immune system and fight the protozoa both by Animal Element |

| You need a good immune builder. The protozoa feed on a low immune system. Fore Front Equine has a great immune builder as well as CurOst. |

....I'm not sure..... When my horse was originally diagnosed with EPM, the vet immediately started her on ReBalance. She recovered from EPM and once she was 100% back to normal, I started her on THE EPM supplement and I've had her on it ever since. |
