CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THE PURPOSE OF A 5 BIT!!!??? everyone has been riding in one and the gelding i recently bought was/is ran in one, can someone tell me what its supposed to do for the horse? whats the difference between a 5 bit and 6 bit???

I personally don't like my gelding in one, he seems a little to pushy to me and i have to sometimes grab him. (id rather have more bit and be light then less bit and have to yank and pull) he seems to run perfectly in one besides maybe taking a step past the first.

Can anyone tell me whats similar to a 5 bit? I've tried looking on old threads and info but i literally can't find anything!

Sometime the bit that the old owner used just doesn't work for the new owner...  IMHO, bits have more to do with the rider than the horse a lot of times.  I'm not saying a 180* swap will work, but quick hands, slow hands, light hands, heavy hands will make a bit feel a lot different to the horse...

I have one bit that I ride on almost every horse because I know how my hands work and what response I can expect out of a horse with it.  There's always exceptions, of course, but I start in the bit that I like.  ;)

if you go to L&W bits under lifter bits the 5 bit is number 190 and the 6 is number 191.. i can't upload a pic for some reason.

I'm sure i'll change bits just wanted some info on exactly what the 5 bit does compared to the 6 bit? and what are some simlar bits to the 5. really just generally wanted more info on the bits themselves.

I haven't had much experience with either of these, but I see a quicker reaction from hand to horse with the 5 bit.  The gag is shorter and deeper.  Also there may be more shoulder lift in the 5, as the purchase is longer.
