Location: Oklahoma | For those that asked, I didn't want to get the other thread off subject. This is CS Roan Flurry. She is from Cross Spur. She was born as a buckskin and is registered as a buckskin but carrying and expressing the roan gene. We have not had her color tested yet, but this year she stayed looking more smokey blue roan. She throws people for a loop on her coloring for sure!

Location: Somewhere around here | I used to have a horse colored just like this! He didn't have any papers cause he was a cross so we had people calling him all sorts of colors. They really do throw you a loop going from their fall colors, to winter, then spring and summer; it's all super different! |

Location: God's country | I have one of those as well. She looks just like yours other than having silver hairs over her hips and through her tail. I sent her color in to AQHA as blue roan but they changed it to buckskin expressing roan characteristics. They are odd looking for sure. |

Location: ND | Mine's a total different color! I bought this mare & foal last spring thinking both where buckskin. Then the filly started shedding her baby coat & turning roan. I knew the mare's dam was red roan & she has a couple areas along the base of her mane & top of hip where she looks "frosted" so I pulled hair & results came back that she is roan.

Mine has area's that look 'frosty' as well. Much much lighter than the OP's! I always get the question "so what color is she??"

  Roan Wonder
Location: SW MO | AQHA only has 3 roan color choices. Bay roan, red roan & blue roan. A bay roan is simply a bay with roan hairs, red roan a sorrel that is roan & a blue roan a black horse that is roan.
A lot of bays and blues are actually brown roan horses. There is a very fine line between them. A blue roan with a brown muzzle is really a brown roan, but AQHA registers them as bay roans.
All the other base colors can be roan, palomino, buckskin grulla & even gray, but AQHA doesn’t have color choices for them so they register them as their base color & then in markings they list carries and expresses a roan gene. One year they didn’t even list it on their papers, it was listed at AQHA in their file. ( Don’t ask me why. ) If you have a horse that was born before 2000 they only had Red roan and blue roan as a choice, so bay roans are listed as red roan on their papers. Many years ago there was only roan as a color choice. They had said that in 2015 they were going to start listing all color choices for roans, followed by listing grays with a base color choice but they haven’t yet.
So there's you roan 123’s for the day LOL |
