Have owned my 3 year old gelding since he was a yearling. Never had loose stool issues at all. Sent him to get broke out. Visited him during training a few times and he was always loose. Chalked it up to stress, environment change, etc. Brought him home first part of December and turned him out. He's had on again/off again loose stool. Some days I don't notice anything, today I was working in the barn and noticed he went #2 3 times in about a 15 minute time frame and pretty loose. He grew a TON in the last several months and I've been trying to get weight on him. He isn't putting on muscle like I want which I fully realize isn't going to happen if he has gut/stool issues. Are there any over the counter things I can try before going the full blown $$$ ulcer treatment route?

He's on rolled barley, Tribute Essential K and good quality grass hay 24/7.

Check to see if he has a fever. We had a mare contract salmonella right after Thanksgiving. One of her major signs was a fever. She had a loose stool off and on.

Forco worked for my gelding. I've been feeding it to him almost a week and see a noticeable change.

We have a TB filly that was very loose,  started her on alfalfa and within 2 days stools were normal.  Also started her on Cur-Ost stomach and adapt, she's only been on it a week so I can't report anything yet.

I had one that always had loose stoole.  Especially when stalled or on the horse trailer.  An old timer told me to give him yogurt.  Sure enough that cured it.  Everytime he would start to get loose I would feed him some yogurt.

Forco did not do anything for any of mine. Waste of money. It was a constant battle with one I had to keep him "solid".

THIS STUFF!

http://www.microbial.com/buy-equine-microbial-products.html

I swear by it. I have a gelding that ANYTIME I would haul him ANYWHERE, he would get an upset stomach and have loose stool. I couldn't haul him away from the house he was so bad. A good friend told me about this product and gave me a few pounds to try and I LOVED the results. About a month later, I was able to take him to a 3 day clinic and he stood at the trailer and I even rode him on the 3rd day! So now, anything that I am riding or hauling gets this.
