Miss Not Exciting

       Location: Ft Worth TX | A mare that I really like recently had a big slip on second barrel and caused an SI injury. My vet suggested injecting it. We injected it and the location of the pain no longer shows pain when palpated HOWEVER 25-30 minutes into your ride she will come up lame. How do you rehab these guys??? She did have some rest. I know limited exercise is good but would an AQUATREAD, swimming, long trotting help? Hill work? Below is a pic kinda showing what we are dealing with its not a pic of her!

       Location: Bastrop, TX | My futurity colt was sore in his SI area when in training and we injected. Then gave him 10 days off. When ready to start back vet had us give him bute day before an exhibition, day of and day after. He was still a little sore so we had chiro work on him and then at BFA vet there did a shockwave treatment. Worked wonders. He ran one second off the fastest time of whole event. Then gave 30 days off. My vet did not want aquatred or swimmimg. Nothing but rest. Takes time. Chiro also had trainer change to one of her other saddles too. But his wasnt from recent injury like you mentioned. |

     Location: SW North Dakota | I had a 7 year old that was unbroke. During the process of getting him started, he tried to jump out of the round pen, got hung up and really tore up his pelvis and back muscles. He chipped his SI. I took him to a good vet several months later (this is when the diagnosis was made); we injected his SI, treated his muscles, etc. The rehab recommendations were to work him for 30 days in a Pessoa rig. I used a Balanced Training System, which REALLY did a good job of stretching his muscles and strengthening his SI area. I worked up to 32 minutes of lunging in the BTS. Now I use it on almost all of my horses to build those muscles. |

Absolutely! Just build a surcingle out of an old cinch, add dees and use some elastic cord for the lines- Google Pessoa and you can find a whole bunch of homemade ones. |

     Location: Canada | Not bashing the Pessoa training system in any way BUT I know a lot of horses that were put in it and learned to create an artificial frame. The system didn't teach the horse anything except to tuck their nose and body in and avoid the pressure instead of engaging their hocks and elevating the front end to create lightness.
I think this system works well on well trained horses who are already capable of correctly framing up and have the strength to maintain the frame for the workout.
Just my experience and opinion. I know some people who swear by it :)

I would agree, to an extent... you have to keep them moving forward with some energy or they will "ride" it back, kind of hollowing out behind the shoulder. Their bellies should lift and they should be driving with some impulsion. I think another key is to realize that working properly in it is like doing a kazillion sit-ups; so start with short time intervals with less resistance. After about 6 weeks, I had them on the verticle going 8 minutes per direction on a circle with at least 60' of diameter. Each direction twice. |
