| I am running a 10 year old, finished, seasoned mare that I am having trouble getting to really run hard throughout the pattern; I have ruled out injuries, she enjoys her job, she is just pretty lazy. I am feeding her seabuck, Omolene 200, and NW horse supplement. She is on high quality alfalfa and is in good shape. I am mostly looking for what other people do to get their lazy horses more motivated? I am really riding her over the top which has helped a TON, she is breezed every once in awhile when the ground is dry enough.
On another note- I just wormed her and am hoping with her diet her topline will fill out some more- she is somewhat of a hard keeper (I will be getting her teeth done soon also) any other ideas?

| I had one like this and couldn't figure out what i was doing wrong until one day he started bleedimg after a run. Turns out he was a bleeder. Started giving him lasix and he started to actually run hard and clocking. Its a pretty common thing and unless you see blood or them coughing its not recognized. Just a thought. |

| I have been planning on getting her scoped soon to hopefully rule this out as well. Thank you for bringing this up! |

| I'm not sure how to post them on here? Most of the recent ones are on Facebook. She clocked a 17.6 on a standard in October (has clocked a couple other 17.6-7 on a standard) but she just isn't running super hard.... I am having the same issue in small pens as I am in open pens.

| Like people, not everyone is going to be a world class sprinter. If she has always run about the same then she is probably at her top speed. I would be worried of a medical issue if she used to run a lot faster and has stopped. |

| She's a 1D/2D mare that I bought as a coming 6 year old so I know she can run, however the last four years have been full of ups and downs and I am just now starting to ride her how she likes so she has kind of lost her edge from me not being as aggressive as her previous owner.
I am looking for exercises and/or feed that others have had success with. |

Location: Where Governor's make the liscense plates | I would try more breezing with smooching to help her go faster then you can incorporate smooching at her in between barrels and she will recognize the sound. If you have a friend to ride with it can be beneficial to "race" one another while breezing.
I know now that people who feed or have fed sweet feed and say it makes their horse hot or have more energy. |
