Some of you may remember the big sorrel gelding that TurnLane rescued a few years ago and I ended up with in Feb. 2014, Royal Red Streaker. After she did all the really hard work, I have gotten to have the fun of training and seasoning this big guy, and it's starting to come together. He struggled initially to even lope a circle on the right lead, and so our first barrel has been a major handicap but we were able to really work on his footwork in February, and on Valentine's Day, I think I stumbled onto the right headgear combination. Streak was third in our NBHA district's 4D standings last year (had the lead until the last couple shows), but this year he's been in the 3D every run but 2. His last 4 runs have been in the 3D, but yesterday was probably the best run we've made in a year.
A 14.571 won the race, my old bay gelding ran a 15.597 to win the 3D and Streak was in the top half of the 3D with a 15.883. To put it in perspective, the last two races we've had there had the same size pattern - 14.69 and 14.71 won those races and he was a high 16.5 both runs.

YAY! That's great!

I'm ready for my mare to show some progress.

This horse was bred to be great, and just got unlucky to end up in very bad shape before TurnLane found him. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/royal+red+streaker
He loves everyone, and I think will end up being a great youth barrel horse in a few years. In the two years he's been with me, he has carried flags at rodeos, been loaned to the rodeo queen for a 3-day finals, taught riding lessons, gone on countless trail rides, competed in all sorts of performance classes for multiple riders, been my grand entry horse at rodeos, my youngest brother's transportation back from the bean field (he led Streak to the field out the driver's window of the truck, hopped on bareback and rode back with the halter) and chased a mule away from my dog a couple weeks ago. I think all we're lacking is some team penning and a bit of dressage for his all-around resume. lol.
