He is not himself yet, but he was really hungry AND brought me the ball. He didn't really want to play, but he was thinking about it :) The vet checked his other eye and said it looked great, no sign of cateract or any other problems. I'm going to try very hard to save this eye, but I accept he may lose it. He really has not been able to see out of it for over a year. I hate he is in pain, but we are addressing that. This dog has overcome so much it's unbelieveable. He has an amazing will to live and thrive. Thanks everyone. I'll keep you posted! I swear it even looks a little tiny bit better, but I may just be wanting it to. I would be trying hard to save his eye too, Hugs

My mother tried to save their Australian Shepherd's eyes when they started to do the same thing. After spending lots of money to save them the first time, the eventually burst anyways and they had to remove them. She's totally blind(well no eyes at all) and doing great. I agree....if there is a chance that this could be an "on going" infection problem, I would look into removing the eye. It is great that he is feeling better this morning.

Georgia Peach Posts: 8338 Location: Georgia	Well our heelers sound like they have lived similar lives. Our red heeler is 11 this year. Before we was 5 he was run over by a truck. Then when he was 7 he was shot in the face by our neighbor with birdshot. He probably should have died both times. Luckily all he suffered was some nerve damage in his hind end from the truck and loss of eyesight in his left eye from the pellets. 2 years ago he started acting very depressed and lethargic. He went from being a fairly high energy dog to laying in the same spot all day everyday. He wouldn't pick up his head when you called him, wouldn't play ball, and wouldn't even chase the horses anymore (his favorite thing). Plus his eyes were so runny and would get so much gunk in them that he could hardly see. We were cleaning them several times a day. It was terrible. So we were thinking that his time was up. Took him to the vet to be evaluated and they were a bit at a loss as well but wrote us a prescription for Rimadyl - an anti-inflammatory for dogs. Within two days he was acting more energetic then he had in years! It was nothing short of amazing. He gets 1/2 tablet once a day. He is still going strong two years later. I would highly recommend this if it turns out to be nothing serious. Good luck and I'll be praying for your pup!
