| So my 15 yr old gelding had some bloody snot after a run sat. It was pretty dry, indoor pen. Its been really windy around here lately kicking up dust. And suggestions on how to handle? I'm calling the vet tomorrow to check in with him but just curious about how others handle it. this is a first time. |

| Sounds like a bleeder. Get him scoped and very will probably put him on lasix I'd he's bad enough. |

| Sounds like he bled. Lasix is the common reccomendation. I have a bleeder and was using Lasix. After talking with Taylor Langdon, I started the Equine Regen and was able to stop the Lasix. Lasix takes a lot out of a horse. So if you decide on Lasix make sure you give electrolytes after the run and plenty of water. Race horse trainers are using Vitalize High Performance in the feed to help.restore what the horse loses with lasix |

| Agree with the lasix. I have a mild bleeder, he runs on 3 1/2 ccs 3 hours out. I paste with electrolytes after every run. I have yet to find a supplement that works. I have scooped even when I did not see blood and he was bleeding. I will not run him without lasix. |

Location: Wearing a winter coat...... | I have a bleeder who is probably one of the worst I have ever seen. She has bled out and the BIGGEST thing is TIME OFF for the lungs to heal after that happens. Also, antibiotics isn't a bad idea either. We have tried it all- Lasix, OXY products every supplement known to man that offers to help and nothing helps with her. Heck, we were part of the stem cell study to cure it and she was one of the only ones to fail that. I tried something new recently and I don't want to come across as a sales person so I won't say the brand BUT I bought a nebulizer......and it is working! She hasn't coughed or lowered her head like she is in pain. This is a game changer in my opinion. |

| I would have the scope to rule out bleeding, and this will also check the guttural pouches to see if they are infected as horses can look like bleeders with a guttural pouch infection |

I completely agree with you.
Scope, if nothing can be seen in scope, then BAL. Then if bloody, 30-60 days off, slow work back, bring into top condition, change living situation to limit all dust, then run on Lasix.
Just a note: my mare that was diagnosed a bleeder in January had surgery today for paralyzed flappers in her larynx, they were diagnosed Friday, and thought to be the cause or main contribution of her bleeding. Make sure that they double check the flappers to ensure that they are in good function. |

Uniprim is the antibiotic . You need to let him recover from the bleeding. I usually give a month. I would also add Vitalize High Performance to his feed. It will help strengthen the lungs. And if your going to use Lasix it will replace what the horse loses in nutrients .
