I'm visiting my friend who had a baby in December.  I missed her baby shower so I want to get her a gift.  WHAT IN THE WORLD do I get her? I'm so not a baby person....the family farms and gardens and is pretty western....any ideas or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!!

Useful items! Clothes are the most popluar it seems, so everyone always has a ton of newborn or 3-6 month, and then nothing after that. It's super nice to go into your closet and find new clothes for later down the road, or even bigger sized diapers etc.

Cowboy/Cowgirl boots for when the baby gets a bit older. $49 at NRS, or I always appreciated a box of diapers from Costco. Or a gift card to Target/Baby R Us, etc.

Although...if you want to get a Bada$$ present...my coworker got us an "off road" baby jogger/stroller that goes to rodeos, barrel races, ropings, the desert, hikes in the mountains (as long as the trail is wide enough) with NO issues. Folds up nicely and is pretty light weight with lots of storage and an adjustable shade for baby's face. It is the BABY TREND LX Jogger. LOVE this thing...best gift ever.

I bet she's already bombarded with baby clothes so I'll suggest Baby Tylenol. She will definitely use it at some point in time.

I'd suggest anything but clothes! I still have another 4-5 months to go before my due date, have not even had a baby shower yet, and I think we are already good on the amount of newborn clothes we have been gifted so far!

ETA: I had a belt made for my friend who had her son a few months ago. A cute leather western one with his name on it. She absolutely loved it. It of course doesn't fit him yet but it's an adorable nursery decoration until it does, and a keepsake. That's an idea for a country gift!

If you can find a Fisher Proce Rock N Play- I'd highly reccomend one.  They run $25-50 depending on the model.  They are so handy

We always try to find a hooded bath towel. And so far (we've been doing this for many years) it still is a big hit!
According to my friends it is something you can never have enough off. And if you can get it embroidered with the name of the child on it makes it that much more special.

The best gift I got at my baby was an auxiliary bottle warmer I could plug into the cigarette lighter of my truck and a zipper freeze pack I could put the milk in! We did a lot of team ropings, barrel races and hunts when my baby was little and those things were a life saver! We don't use the bottle warmer anymore but my husband uses the cold pack to put a few beers in a throws it in his rope bag.

Definitely anything but clothes. I still have 14 weeks to go and I think I have enough baby clothes for the first year! If you do see the cutest outfit, try to pick a size past 6 months, as usually most purchase in that newborn-6 month age.

Her baby is likely going to be eating baby food soon, so spoons and things like that are going to be useful.

If you want to get something special and creative, search on Etsy. They always have the cutest things.

Boppy Pillow - I had to ask the same question a couple months ago and that was the number one answer I received from people that were fairly new mothers. They use it to make breast feeding easier and can prop the baby up in it if you need your hands free for a few minutes. Babies seem to love them.

I have a brand new baby. Love our boppy pillow. The towel with the hood is awesome. Diapers, especially bigger sizes, are always great. I also use lots of socks. Lots and lots of good socks that fit. Carter brand is pretty good, not the fluffy ones but ones that will fit tight. No shoes; they outgrow them too fast. A bath kit might be appreciated. Our baby also loves her bouncer and it wasn't very expensive, maybe $20. I have more clothes than I know what to do with. I have tons of blankets, some handmade and some not. Those types of things, and stuffed animals, always seems to be overgifted. Things that are everyday useful too like medicine, bottles, wipes, nursing accessories if she is breastfeeding (they have handpumps for like $30 and this is so useful to me at work), Dr. Smith's diaper creme (that stuff is literally amazing, sooo much better than Desitin) are all useful.

ETA: and the miracle that keeps a newborn asleep--a woombie.

I like to buy the baby a dish set--usually has the plate, a bowl, a cup, and silverware with the design on the handle. You can find some cute character ones--like Toy Story etc. They use them for a long time once they start feeding themselves.

If you can't resist getting clothes...definitely go with 6months plus sizing. Diapers and wipes always come in handy!
