Just out of curiosity, how long does it take you on average to accumulate enough points to qualify for NBHA World? I have done mainly jackpots and IBRA for quite awhile, but I am going to an NBHA race next week. I suppose I am just uncertain if it is already too late in the year to pay for a membership and shoot for World next year? (As a side note, my horse and I are one of those unlucky teams that tend to fall in the cracks somewhere in the 2D.)

Thanks in advance! :)

You can qualify by winning one of the D's at your state Finals and getting a wildcard or by being in the top few in one of the D's  your District and receiving a qualification.  So depending on that and how your state runs, there might be plenty of time.

It depends on your area and your district. Honestly, you are probably better off saving the money running those shows and just buying a wildcard. In our area we have a lot of districts that seem to overlap (for lack of a better word) - and people frequently bounce around between districts to find the easiest one to qualify in.

And if you want to buy a wildcard let me know.  I know of many for sale!

It really depends on your district.  The district I live in has only had one show so far this year that counts for points.
I 'think" you have to finish in the top 5 of any of the 5 divisions within your district for year end points to get a qualification.  Or is it 6 divisions now?

Thank you all for your input!
I have never seen a race in a 6D format, but that would be cool!

And awesome, Ropenrun! I will let you know if that's the way I decide to go. :)

I just checked nbha.com and it appears that the world's are still 5D.  So even if the local nbha barrel race is a 3d or 4d, the points for the day get awared as if it's a 5d because the year end awards are 5d and the world qualifications are for 5 divisions. I believe that the local district will skip over non-district members in the daily results to award the points, so even if you don't win money at the show or could be far down in the crack, you might still get points for your district.

You are correct.  Distribution of points is only based on your district members.  Often the payoff and the points are quite different if there are nonmembers and out of district members competing at a sanctioned race.

Yes, I think it was changed in the last year or two or three that points are based on your district only. It may seem silly to mention, but this means the 1d doesn't start on the fastest horse at the race, it starts at the fastest of your district and the divisions are recalculated for points purposes. I think this has made a tremendous difference in the year end/world qualifying points races.
