With my first I rode for five months but stopped competing at 3 months. I had a lot of complications with my first delivery and recovery, not because I rode, just because it happens sometimes.

With my second, I rode and competed for four months. My balance started changing and I didn't want to take a chance of getting the baby or myself hurt or inadvertently teaching my colts bad habits as they tried to compensate for my ever changing center of gravity.

The best thing I ever did was give my horses maternity leave. They came back stronger and sharper than before.

Tn_Barrelracer - 2016-04-21 8:09 AM I'm 29weeks and haven't rode since about 8 weeks pregnant just not worth the risk as anything can happen on the most gentle of horses. It's really a personal decision for you and your husband. Could you live with it if something was to happen? 40 weeks really isn't that long and chances are your horses could probably use a break anyways if you compete on them regularly :)

...what this girl said......in one hand, your child...in the other, the joy of riding for another what, 2 months? Weigh your decision carefully. Horses spook all the time or buck for unknown reasons. Is it worth it to risk the life of your child? With my first baby, I rode till I was about 10 weeks; however, first pregnancy, you have no comprehenion how precious that tiny life will become to you...my second child, I understood that; I stopped riding the day I knew I was pregnant. It's just safer...accidents happen. Please choose wisely. And congratulations!!!

I rode at the house until about 5 months. Quit a little sooner than my body was telling me to because ground stayed muddy for a few weeks. So I just went ahead and stayed off. I only rode my two older geldings, trotting and loping circles to keep us all in shape. No colts or barrels. I did fine, had an easy pregnancy and delivery. But...... She's my first and only child and knowing what I know now (as far as all the things that can go wrong before, during and after pregnancy) & actually REALLY coming to know how blessed we are and how precious she is, I wouldn't ride again if I were pregnant. 99% of the time, everybody comes thru fine.... But once you have that baby, your whole mindset will change. Only you can decide and no hypocritical judgements from me either way.... But no, I wouldn't do it again.
