I have always hauled in straight loads. I am currently trailer shopping and it seems like you get more bang for your buck with the slant loads. What do you guys prefer?

I don't know if my horses today would even get IN a straight load trailer. I feel that they haul more comfortably, are not as subject to the feeling of claustrophobia when loading. I have a stock combo with a full back door and rarely have loading issues, even with horse that have never been loaded. If worse comes to worse, I can back up to a gate and heard them in. I also feel that there is less likelihood that on horse injures another by kicking or accidently steeping on another as their lags are staggered, not next to each other.

Given the choice, I will never own a straight load again. JMO

I've never owned a slant load myself, but I've hauled with friends plenty of times who have slant loads and I'd love to have one, for many of the reasons listed in the reply above. My mom had a little two horse straight load bumper pull when I was younger, I didn't too much care for it, especially with the horses who were prone to be claustrophobic, and I currently haul with an open stock type trailer. My horses always seem to arrange themselves at a slant anyway. Husband and I are saving to buy a new trailer in the next year or two, at which time we'll definitely go with a slant load.

I had a horse that never rode in anything but a straight load. He was ALWAYa pain to load. He climbed the walls the whole time he was in the trailer. I bought a slant load. He hopped right in and rode comfortably. Never had another problem. There doesn't seem to be the learning curve for young horses either.
