Location: Southeast Louisiana | ...any words of wisdom? Tomorrow, I plan on going to my first barrel race after a long hiatus, with my first living quarters horse trailer. It's pretty much a practice run, since I'm not going overnight. I am trying to get familiar with this thing and get back to barrel racing with a set up that will work with a toddler. I am going to fill the water tank, check the tire pressure and pack a few normal things like bug spray and some food. Other than that, I was just wondering if I was missing any big pre-trip preps with a LQ? |

I don't have a generator yet. I plan on adding that later, as it's set up for one. But, I'll be hooking up to a RV hookup tomorrow. |

| I don't have a LQ trailer, but have traveled in one with a friend. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to be sure you use the RV trailer toilet paper, not your everyday household Charmin? It has to be biodegradable for the tanks you empty into, right? I know I've seen special RV toilet paper in the automotive section at walmart - not sure where else it is sold. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | Hmmmm. I had not heard that about the t.p. But, I'll look into it. In reality, we will probably just use the bathrooms at the facility I'm going to. IF anyone uses the one in the trailer, I don't think it'll be too much to worry about.
Thanks for the heads-up on that, though. I'm very new to all of this. |

Location: TN | We just got a LQ trailer too and I didn't realize there was so much to do to stay in it. We hooked up to RV outlet and water so haven't delt with using a generator yet.
Hope your first overnite stay went smoother than mine. |

Yes, you're right. I assumed everyone knew that, sorry! Another potty tip is use lots of water when you flush to help keep it from sludging up and sticking to your tank. Sometimes a bag of ice in the black tank before driving down the road will help clean it if it does get icky. If that fails, they make a wand attachment for the water hose so you can spray it out good.
Use RV waterhoses for water hookups. And hook the ends together when you're done using them to keep them clean. Adding a small amount of bleach to the freshwater tank will keep it cleaner. I don't drink that water anyway. Use a deodorizer for the gray water tank so your drains don't waft. Know how much your electrical system can handle and try not to use too many things at once. An a/c unit will pull 15 amps by itself, so if you're hooked up with a 30, that's half your amps. |

Get a pressure regulator for your city water hookup
TP depends on what you're using for a black tank treatment. I forget what the one I use is called but I use Charmin Basic and never see any TP when I empty.
My RV guy gave me a hint on AC's - when it does get hot and humid run your AC on high, not auto. Auto will shift it into low as you get close to your target temp and the water it's pulling in from the humid air can freeze it up.
If you want to use your fridge make sure you are level, even if you have to unhook (I use coolers for day trips). Not being level will cause the coolant to pool and fridge can blow.
Watch out for your back window when backing up....(not me, fiancΓ©, the experienced gooseneck driver. Twice.
All I got for now - have fun! |

Location: Jersey Girl | I would make sure you know how to use the awning and how to open up the grey water tank so if the tank fills up you can drain it out. Also be familiar with using the hot water (how to turn it on etc). |

Different adapters for plugging in |

| Pay attention to how long your electrical cord is. If the outlet is against a wall and you have to back into the space....if the cord isn't longer than the length of the trailer...you'll have problems, lol! I had to buy a pigtail once because of this and it wasn't easy to find in a podunk town.
I'd also highly recommend an adaptor.

Ooooohhhhh.... Ouch!
I will definitely watch my back window. I'm pretty paranoid about that happening. Hopefully, I won't even get close. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | Thanks for all the tips. I will look into getting some adapters to keep on hand and some RV t.p. Great tip about running the fridge on level ground. I would have never thought about that. I know I have to turn on some things. I thought the hot water kicked in automatically. I will be doing a lot of reading the manuals today! I did practice with the awning, but I think it needs some repairs. I'm going to avoid using it today. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | Can you start up the refrigerator and use it while you're going down the road?? I'd like to put some stuff in it, but I don't want it to get hot, but I don t want to mess up the refrigerator, either. |

Location: CTX | I don't flush the t.p. I have a small trashcan (with a lid, and a walmart baggie) and just put the t.p. in there. Also I try not to go nr 2 in there. Walmart has caps that you can hook a waterhose to, you can put that on the grey watertank and let it run in the grass, since that is mostly water and maybe a little soap, no problem. And it keeps you from having to empty out all the time. |

I use the gray water to flush out the hose after I dump the black tank. |
