yet another saddle thread.... gonna try to make this short and sweet!!!

I have been trying SO hard to find a saddle that i liked and that fit my gelding. Finally found one (LM) and talked to lynn herself on exactly what tree i needed etc. WELLLLLL... turns out my friend i haul with sometimes has one, so she of course let me borrow and try it out and i LOVED it. Anyways i bought a used one (just can't afford a brand new one right now) and it is NOTHING like my friends. it is terrible. So i messaged Lynn once again asking if maybe she could tell me what exactly is the difference between the two well she then tells me that at one point when double j started making her saddles they weren't making them the way she asked and assumed she wouldn't notice.. entirely different bars. (All of which she didn't know) so she then told me there are a couple bad seeds out there, not a lot but she has ran across some. Well here i am, saddle-less and out of my money on a "bad seed".... So I'm working on getting rid of the one i have, and just going to buy new. but now I'm worried i'll end up with what i don't want. So now I'm wondering can/does double j send out demos? what happens if i don't like the demo?

Like i said, my friend has exactly what i want just need a smaller seat size. Her serial number has been rubbed so you can't read all of it anymore. i'll have it with me tomorrow so should i messure things on it?? and if so, what?

Do you know what year your current LM was made? Does your friend know when hers was made and what tree it was?

Call Double J directly and speak with them. They are great to work with.

One of the major tree makers that was in Texas got bought out and went to Mexico and that is when the problems began. Double J fixed that problem by building the trees themselves. Yes...they do have a demo saddle program.

Yes thats what Lynn said, that they started making their own saddles but weren't making what she asked for made totally different bars. so she said even though the saddles say special that they are actually two different trees.

And my friends saddle was made 2010-ish. and i don't know what year the one i bought is. i do know it does not have any serial numbers anywhere, and i also read that the older models do not have them (2007-08 is what lynn said) so i assume one of those years.

If you like the used saddle you bought, I would ask if they could switch out trees. Good Luck!

It is a major overhaul to change out a tree coupled with the issue that some parts may or may not fit the new tree and have to be remade.....making it costly. She would be better off selling that saddle and purchasing a new (or different) one.

Double J is great to work with. Call them and tell them what is going on and see what they say. If they can help in any way I'm sure they will. At least they can give you options.
Good luck!

When my tree busted a few years ago it was 650 to replace the tree, more if you wanted the horn wrapped, and more depending on seat plus shipping. I was looking at about 900 to get the saddle exactly the same as it was. You're better off buying another because it takes weeks/months to get done.

saddles are like a pair of jeans you can have the same size and style but fit totally different! I tried a used Caldwell fit horse perfect and seat was too big for me. So I ordered a new one same everything but did not fit my horse like the used one did even after two years So keep nagging friend til she sells you hers lol very frustrating! But you are a little head of the game since you did find a saddle that works.

There is a big difference in how the new ones ride compared to the older ones. I have a lynn I had custom built in the fall of 2014. It looks and rides completely different to the older ones I have seen. Mine honestly rides similar to a pozzi but a tad more upright. I actually prefer it to my pozzi. I would get serial number off your friends and ask for the same thing when you do order!

I would think that since 2010 they have made changes to the tree they produce also.

You can get a demo online or by calling them... sometimes they may not have the seat size in stock. You just put the total amount of the saddle on your card, they ship it, if you like that saddle you can just tell them you're keeping it or the amount already paid will go towards the saddle you choose. If you don't like it you can send it back and everything except their fee will be refunded to you.
