He gets tied because I am the boss and say it is time to take your freedom away and I said so.... this brat will buck in place for hours and look at you like you are the devil.
I don't know why but the mental image of this horse made me giggle. |

| I had one of mine tied up saddled in the sun from 11:30 til 3pm when I could go ride him. I gave him water before and after I rode. Then he got tied back up until time to go to the roping pen. The reason I do it sometimes is to let the sun and sweat take a little bit of the freshness out of him. I would have rode him sooner but we don't ride when home alone so I had to wait on hubby. Worked like a charm |

If you have ever rode enough colts and soured up pukes for a living, you will interstand that tying one up and letting them soak works. I also had tie stalls (or standing stalls) likee they used for the old time draft horses that they lived in. And a tall oak tree. Nothing cures and b!tchy Mother Ed up mare faster, than living in a tie stall and only getting out twice a day to WORK. Never had an owner complain about the end result either. However I'm not sure what the purpose is to tying one up after a bad run?? For a performance problem, I don't see it as the most effective method of fixing it. For a behavioral problem yes, performance. Not so much.

you are not the only one. we sometimes go inside and watch through the window and sip tea. he puts on quite a show! he will rear up and try to see the other side of the horse trailer if tied to the trailer. doesn't cry just is looking for me to give me the stink eye |

I agree with this. I'd never tie out for bucking probs, I don't see how that would solve that issue, but occasionally tying my mare for a few hrs a few days in a row can be good for her. For some reason, when I come out to get her, she's happy to see me and to WORK. Almost like 'Thank God I get to do something, this is so boring.' Maybe that doesn't make sense, but this is where I find tying out for a bit helps the particular horse I have now. |

Our colts also spend alot of time tied. We train colts and also operate a dude string. There is nothing better for colts to be tied as their "buddies" come and go. I will ride a colt out, tie it for a couple hours, ride it again ... and It doesn't take long for a colt to understand that being tied is a great place to rest and conserve energy. I like it because they learn to have to deal with life at that hitching post and by the time it's time for you to work them they have had their attitude adjustment and the best part is...you haven't had to ride it out. I feel like the rides are alot more positive because you haven't had that extra stuff to deal with and both you and the colt stay in a better frame of mind.
