Can you nebulize say, Gentacin?

My 30 year old, here until she is not, I owe her everything, mare has been fighting a horrid sinus infection since last fall when she had a loose upper molar pulled. Well, it turned horrid this spring. I had tried 5 courses of different antibiotics and a round of immune stim and it got so bad that the corner of the barn reeked of an extra nasty infection. Finally pushed to culture the copious snot coming out of her nostrils (lungs clean and had scoped her months earlier) and it turned out to be an extra nasty bacteria, a variety of pseudomonas that was susceptible to Gentacin and SMZs, both of which I had tried. Put her on a heavy dose of both for over two weeks, got significant improvement. Had to go away to a family funeral in Texas and didn't want to heap the medications on my chore doer, so we stopped. After a week or so she started to get bad again, so back on Gentacin and she got better. If I take her off the Gentacin for any period of time and she gets worse. I am worried that it will become resistant and then what do I do??? Not to mention that when she gets bad she gets very puny and depressed

So I was wondering if you aerosolize something like Gentocin or colloidal silver and get it right into the sinuses? I just want to keep her comfortable until it's her time. I HATE the idea of having to put her down from a stupid sinus infection but that is what I am facing if I can't get this under control.

Any ideas? I do have her on an herbal immune mix with some natural antibiotics. This infection is a type that takes over when the immune system is compromised.
She has continued to eat through out this ordeal and when she is not feeling puny, will still kick up her heels out in the pasture. Can anyone help me help my girl?

You should consult with Dr. Schell from Nouvelle Research, he has been a great help to me. I currently have a horse going through a Sinus Infection. Not to that extreme but still crappy!

Hope you can get her figured out, poor girl! I googled sinus infections in horses right when I determined that was my mares issue and found that sometimes they have to drill holes in their forehead to flush and relieve pressure....

Thanks. I will try to remember to call them tomorrow. I don't think the drilling of holes is needed unless it is to administer antibiotics directly to the infected site. I also give her antihistamine/mucinex/pseudofed to help keep things draining. At it's worst it drains with cottage cheese gunk and a constant drip/run of thinner discharge.

Maybe they will have another alternative for me.

I would give the nubulizer a try. In fact I would use the old fashion type and push as much humidified air as possible. (Use the silver with the sterile water.) To neb the gentocin your going to need an ultrasonic neb such as a flexineb so that it will disperse properly. You might want to give your horse some acetylcysteine via neb as well. That should thin the secretions along wtiih the antibiotics to rid the infection.

I like using Thieves oil on the bleeders in my life as of late. No notice of infection and I'm not using the gent that can be hard on the kidneys.

Thanks, I have zero experience or knowledge of nebulizers. Didn't know if nebulizing an antibiotic was feasible. Will have to talk to vet about the humidified air though. This particular bacteria thrives in a warm moist environment.

Need to make that phone call.

100% recommend Cur-Ost as well. And also blood cell analysis or hair analysis if you have easy access.
