Location: Rodeos or Baseball games | Have a mare that bled a few years back so we have put her on Lasix. Seems like since we have her on Lasix she is hard to get into the arena. Could this be a side effect of the Lasix? How can I fix this?

| Lasix has never effected our bleeders behavior or performance. Once year he goes to a multiple day race and he is given lasix every day, other than that event, we don't run him consecutive days. |

| First I would get her rescoped to make sure she's not still bleeding through the lasix without bleeding out. Especially if she had no gates issues before she actually bled out.

Yes -- my first thought was to ask if she was still bleeding without bleeding out. |

Location: Texas | Try some ace 45 minutes out. That might help. Did she have a gate issue before? If she bled then that was your problem. Lasix would not affect going into the pen. |

Location: Idaho | Maybe she is allergic to it? Some horses have different reactions. I knew a horse once that was allergic to a certain sedative, the horse would blow up if it was given to her. eventually one vet figured it out, and then they had no more issues. |

Location: Bandera, TX | Take her to a vet that can do a BAL on her. I bet you a month of entry fee's she's bleeding. Scoping just doesn't cut it. Like others have mentioned you may need to try some meds to calm her mind prior to the run. But, I bet she's legit and telling you something is wrong. Listen to me...I'm your horse and I'm having trouble competing right now. My lungs are on fire and then their flooding with blood. Help me please. |

Location: Pacific Northwest | Like others have said, my guess would be something is still bothering her about her lungs. It might seem like it's the Lasix because you discovered she's bleeding and therefore started her on the medication. Horses can bleed without bleeding out. She might also have lung inflammation, which won't show up on a scope.
Most gate problems stem from some sort of pain, whether its bleeding, ulcers, or some sort of joint pain. |

Location: Texas | lasix shouldn't make them refuse the alley. I'd bet you are either still dealing with the repercussions of bleeding or she has some unrelated issue and its coincidence that you also run on lasix. |
