So, I have this really nice four year old, her papers are to die for and she is drop dead gorgeous. I got her on the barrel pattern maybe six months ago, and she is just the nicest little thing. The problem now is that I just cannot get her out there to run. We can exhibition and make great runs, but I just cannot enter her. I always find something wrong with our runs, even if it is just the littlest thing, like kicking her hip out around the second barrel or me pulling at one point in a turn. It has gotten to the point where I won't even enter at jackpots or high school rodeo until we are 100% ready, even though she won't get any closer to being ready if I don't enter somewhere. I don't know what my deal is, we ran two thousandths off of the arena record in an exhibition, but I still can't pull up the courage to go run, even just in the youth. Any tips on just getting out there?

You just have to do it!! You have to pull on your big girl panties, close your eyes, maybe cry a little if that makes you feel better, fill out that entry form, write the check, and just do it!!!

Once that first one is out of the way it's smooth sailing from there. You can do it. Allow all your hard work and perserverance to shine through. Go enter and have fun!

Not trying to pick on you but trust me on this, one day you will wake up and that horse may be gone way too soon. Go enjoy what you have worked so hard for, mistakes and all. We are not promised tomorrow.

Thank you guys for the push. I am running a jackpot tomorrow night, it's only in the youth, but it's a start. Maybe I'll post an update, if I don't end up making it saddle bronc instead of barrels.

Seriously, RELAX! last time I checked there are plenty of 4d runs to go to. You dont have to be the fastest person there to win money. Go, season your horse. And there is no practice run that feels the same way a real run does when there is money on the line. Its ok if you are not perfect, and at this point it is unrealistic to expect your horse to be perfect. Iv heard more people that just outran everyone say "that felt like near disaster the whole way!" Ask Taylor Jacob about the run that she set the NFR arena record. It looked flawless to us and she smoked it but she said there were lots of little things that werent perfect about that run.
I think you are too worried about what everyone will think if you dont have a perfect run. Go have fun!

You just have to go. Exhibitions are different than the real thing. You're going to make mistakes on even a finished horse. Enter your horse and good luck!

I got her out last night, and made a mediocre run, with tons of pilot errors. Knocked second, again totally my fault, but would have taken second in the youth 1D. My other baby made a really nice exhibition and my finished gelding just cracked out of the open 1D.

Sounds like a successful night of barrel racing to me!!! Congratulations on going out there and overcoming your "fear!"  You go girl!!!
