cyount2009 - 2016-08-01 8:08 AM My sister is living on her boyfriend's ranch in Carmel Valley. It's very scary. They were first told it wouldn't make it to the ranch and now they are on an evacuation warning. They have decided to be proactive and started hauling stock off the ranch before that warning becomes mandatory. It's moving so fast.

I believe it might be mandatory now... I know certain areas of Carmel Valley are. My cousin lives in Cachagua & was evactuated. (south Carmel Valley heading toward Arroyo Seco). The new plan is to build a barrier fire on that side. Looking like a lot more homes will be destroyed. It's extremely saddening. I just hope our town can come together better & stop complaining about how the ash is ruining their cars

She had told me that Cachagua was mandatory yesterday. SO very sad. I haven't talked to her since yesterday afternoon because they have been so busy hauling livestock out. They picked up her boyfriend from the airport yesterday, he just got back from commercial fishing in Alaska and they didn't back in and to bed until 5:30 this morning. My sister and her boyfriend's mom have been hauling stock since Friday. They are exhausted. I don't know what still up there. I know they got the sheep, goats and saddle horses hauled off (I think there is still around 15 or 20 horses still to haul). They still had to find about 20 pairs of cows and calves yesterday. The place they are taking the animals is in King City which she said is about an hour and a half from the ranch, so anytime they take a load its a minimum of 3 hours before they can get back for another.

That's sad to hear that they are worried about the ash on the cars. You would think there would be more compassion.

Yikes!! That is not good. If they need any help let me know! I live in Soledad, so I'm about an half an hour closer from King City. I know Monterey County Sherriff's Posse grounds is now taking in horses, not sure about cattle. I also have a few contacts of people helping with hauling. They created a new FB page called "Monterey County Livestock Evacuation Team".

& exactly-people are definitely showing their colors now. Some are "appalled" at how they are handling the fire. & I'm just appalled at the people who say that. What do they expect? Maybe they should suite up & see. This has become one of the most challenging fires most of CALFire has ever seen. We now have 5000 firefighters working.

Fortunately there are still a lot of great people helping out!
