I was reading a book called the driftwood legacy. In the book it talks about how a weanling son of driftwood got a aged shetland pony mare pregnant. The resulting foal was called "monster". He has a normal horse sized head and a shetland pony body. To me the point of that story is that the "crosses" don't always meet in the middle. If you breed a cutting horse to a race horse you might end up with half and half, not a combination. If you breed phenotype to phenotype you have a pretty good idea of what you are going to get. So if it were me, I'd look more toward something closer to the mare physically while still adding speed, Blazin Jetolena would be an example.

I agree with this. We bred a Docs Oak mare to our running stud that had plenty of speed and sired it consistently. That gelding was a real nice ranch horse but took after his dam. There was no meeting in the middle. He was quick but not fast, not fast enough to even be a ranch horse. Would have been fine in the arena working fat steers. He was also 14.3 and not a real stout made guy. Nothing like his sire, but a lot like his dam.

But with that said because I like race bred, I would go with Bodacious Dash or First Prize Dash just off of bloodlines. I would steer clear of the Chicks Beduino and Feature Mr Dash just doesn't trip my trigger.

First Prize Dash is my mare's GRANDMOTHER. She died some time ago. Might be kinda hard to breed to her.

I have a Bodacious Dash yearling filly who is absolutely adorable and great disposition/personality. However, her dam(Jet Cartel x Class La Jolla x Streakin La Jolla) is a doll too. She isn't a big mare, right at 15'1 with a more "cow" horse build. BIG butt and low hocks. My filly isn't as tall as the other yearlings out of the other race studs/mares but she is SOLID. Good bone, perfect feet, nice big hip and the little sucker can move so athleticallya nd naturally.
As far as the other stallions I don't have any personal experience with them but I have several Beduino and even one double bred. I wouldn't be afraid of that. It's all a gamble. My best broodmare is a Runaway Winner daughter out of a Sinn Fein mare. She's the sweetest/easiest mare and her babies every one of them have been SMART and easy. I was told she was too hot LOL based on her papers

I LOVE track bred but I'm not crazy about any of your choices. If I were to already get something Chicks Beduino bred that was working nice then I definitely wouldn't mind to have THAT one in my barn but I would never IMO ( I know some ppl love them and I've had a good one or two of them) gamble by breeding to one. Some just do NOT cross well especially with cow bred horses.

I'd go with a son of FG, SOF, or SBL.....something at least barrel bred with that mare.

I think something with some Dash ta Fame in it would be great. Why not breed to Streaking ta Fame. Great record, great looking, and he had some success on the track too.

Our mare owners sure seem to be loving the cowbred mares crossed on Pistol, we bred several last year and have several booked for 2017 already. He throws solid made colts with brians.

I really like any of the 3 besides Bigtime Favorite - only because Chicks Beduino bred can be pretty hot. From everything I've seen and heard of Mr. Jess Perry horses are kind, smart, and level headed. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.... Feature Mr. Bo Jangles is 1/2 price (1500) if paid by the 31st.

Pistol Packin Perry is gorgeous!!!
