Location: Florida | Don't know why BUT I have always had a love affair with Montana and planning a trip soon in the near future... but where to go?? What areas are good for visiting, maybe ranches that allow riding etc? And then maybe one day in the future what areas would be ideal to move to? Are barrel racing/ rodeos bigger in certain areas of the state? Any info .. good bad or ugly appreciated :) Pictures would be a bonus |

| I am on the west side of Montana in Hamilton . There are so many places you can see lots of recreation and many places you could ride. My area does have barrel races but not nearly as many as over around Bozeman or Billings. I actually want to move closer to Billings to have more to do with the horse. It is a beautiful state . |

| The western part of the state is beautiful, trees and mountains. Eastern is more flat and dryer but has more barrel racing with numerous indoor arenas. |

Location: Montana | I live practically in the middle of Montana (I think about the same area as needmocash2). I think anything from Lewistown west is really pretty, but from Lewistown east is really flat and ugly. There are a whole lot of barrel racing things going on near the Billings and Bozeman area compared to the rest of the state. There are some many different places to visit in Montana, it kind of depends on your interests. I'm personally a big fan of the Helena area, but it is also our state capital. I like the Bozeman area as well, it s really pretty but I find really busy (at least compared to where we live, compared to Florida it is probably not busy at all!). The places near the state parks are probably more likely to offer horse riding, but it would be more like guided trail rides, and I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for or not. Personally, I think one of the prettiest places in the state if not the prettiest is Polson, MT, and the Flathead Lake area. I find it SOOO beautiful, and very relaxing. So, hope you have a fun time if you make it up this way! But you probably should make it soon, as we generally can start getting snow in October, and sometimes earlier depending on the year. |

Location: In my own little world | All of MT has good great areas depending on your interests. There are larger barrel races in Bozeman and Billings but there is no shortage of weekly jackpots in Northwest Montana. From May to mid-October we have over 50 jackpots to choose from this summer which is about 2 per week, winter rodeo series (2/mo) in a very nice indoor facility, summer weekly rodeo series with the same format, where the barrel racing pays on a 3D format with 1/2 splits and you can enter 2 horses plus a private facility that hosts winter jp's. We also have weekly riding available in the same arena during the winter. Lots to do from Glacier Natl Park, snow skiing in the winter, water skiing in the summer. Winter can be lots of snow on the west side vs more wind on the east side of the state. I've lived on both sides of the mtns and like the entire state. |
