Location: NE Texas | Sometimes the immune system can be over active and that too can cause big problems in ours and our horses heatlh. Allergies would be an example of an overactive immune system, as it is trying to attack single thing, resulting in allergy symptoms. The GI system is the home base for the immune system, so many times a dysfunctional immune system, both over and under reactive, is a sign of a GI system that also isn't performing efficiently. I use the Cur-ost products both for myself and for my horses and have had alot of success with them for both. I no longer have to get allergy shots, steroid shots, or take anti-histamines daily, and it saved my horse's life.....but that is another story. You can search my posts to read more about him. Here is a link regarding immune health. Lots of good reading on the articles section of this website! https://www.nouvelleresearch.com/index.php/articles/371-immune-support-and-the-horse |

Location: Bandera, TX | When I'm rodeoing I use RVI from Eudaemonic Its Rubeola Virus Immunomodulator
Also is good when you have a colt that stresses during those long futurity runs such as AZ in Jan.! They don't get as body sore. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | Depending on how much of a boost they need I use either
Immune Boost or Immune Key both from Animal Element
Boost has lysine which helps with things like allergies
Key helps fight infection, helps bleeders heal, more serious stuff. |

Location: Willows, CA | Herbie is right about hind gut health being the primary influence on immune response. Also right about an over stimulated immune system being an allergic response. I have not used Curost, nor do I feel that I will need to. I have nothing against it, just don't have horses that need it. But, I do agree with the statement that overall hind gut health is a prime factor in how responsive the immune system is in the horses body. While digestive system inflammation plays a key role, PH is also an important factor. This is why simplifying the diet, removing or greatly limiting grains and providing quality roughage as the primary energy source results in overall health benefits that include a "normal" immune response. The key word here is normal. If you get that, your horse will be able to resist negative allergic reactions to its genetic potential. |

Location: Canada | Thank you for the response :) that definitely makes sense with what you guys are saying. The horse I'm looking to help boost (or maybe it's over stimulus like others have said) has had scratches now for over 2 years. I've tried the scratches vaccine and it hasn't worked, every cream under the sun and even a few rounds of antibiotic treatments over the time as well. Thought it was maybe a photosensitivity but he still never got rid of it in the last 2 winters when he was on hay with no clover in it. He is out on pasture 24/7 and only gets oats or Hoffmans as a treat after being rode. So looking at giving him an immune booster possibly to help, I'm not sure what else to do? :( |

Talk to your vet about using Levamisole. You can drench it for several days to see if you get a boots in your horses immune system. If your vet doesn't know how to mix the drench pm me. I use it often in our goats and have the formula for horses as well. |
