| A little different than what I usually have questions about but I'm kind of in a pinch. Both of my horses decided to get sick/hurt within a week of each other and as such I have a pretty hefty vet bill coming to me at the beginning of next month. I'm a college student and have limited funds as it is so it would be much easier on me to be able to spread my payments out a little bit. My vet office offers payment plans with interest but I'm looking into some other options as well.
A couple of family members of mine have CareCredit which I'd never heard of before but basically its a credit card that is only for hospital/vet/other health care needs. They really like it and this option appeals to me because of their 6 month interest free payment option. I also know I need to start building credit somehow, too. Does anyone have it or know of people who have one of these cards? The good, bad and everything in between is welcome.

| I have one as a back up plan for my back up plan. Keep in mind that the interest is expensive after the initial time period, and the interest can snow you under quickly. |

| I got this card several years ago. I paid it off before the Co was sold, now the Co says I owe balance which I have protested sending them copies of payments made. They do not pay attention to what I send. |

| I would look at your vets payment plan or since you said you need to build credit consider a traditional credit card - if you can be responsible with it.
If you can get approved for a traditional card you may find one with a longer interest free period, or as a college student qualify for a low interest rate (I have one I got in college still that carries an 8.99% interest rate, which is really low these days it seems)
By going the traditional card route you now have an emergency net for non pet related issues like vehicle problems too.

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I have one of these. I got it 4 years ago when my mare had to have surgery, and it gave me 12 months with no interest to pay it off. Paid it within the time limit and everything was exactly as expected. That's the only time I have used it, but I still have it just in case. |

I have used it for dental work and paid it off with 0% interest & had no issues. |

Yes it is just a credit card, but it's nice to have around for emergencies. I don't rely on it for routine maintenance. |

Location: Kansas | I got it when I had to have a root canal done because my insurance wouldn't cover the procedure. I had 12 months of no interest, thankfully i paid it off before the 12 months, because otherwise the interest rates would have been outrageous.
If you can pay off the card before the interest rates, go for it....otherwise, I would speak to your vet about payments. |

Location: "...way down south in the Everglades..." | Like others said, pay it off in the no interest period and it's great. I originally got mine for dental and used it and paid it off before the interest kicked in. Then I used it for a dog emergency but that time I couldn't get it paid off before the interest kicked in...that was a definite mistake. I was eatten alive with interest rate charges. Took me quite a while to get out of that mess! |

| I work at a healthcare office that accepts care credit. We accept 2 years interest free. It's a good plan but make sure you have your balance paid off before interest kicks in - rates are high |

| Not all doctors/vets accept Care Credit. If you plan on using it, make sure they will take it. |

Location: Georgia | I've had one for many years and have used it on numerous vet bills. I have had no problems but always had it paid off before expired date and I never put another vet bill on top of balance already there unless I'm close the getting first one paid off. Keep in mind that not all vets accept Care Credit. You'll need to check with them. I don't know what I would have done without it. |
