Location: Piedmont, OK | Has anyone ever dealt with Praetorian Insurance on a mortality claim? I have an 18 yr old OTMR that hyper extended the hock and tore all the ligaments and tendons completely away. The vet said the humane thing to do is put her down. I left them a message but they are closed until Monday. I have never had to file a claim before. Hopefully they are good to work with. |

| Have you already put the horse down? They usually have it in the policy that you have to contact them before putting them down. AND, they usually have an emergency number for that notification. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I put my stud down due to vets advice. He had an arthritic knee. I called ahead of time, told them when the appt was, had vet contact them. After he was put down, they wanted a ton of paperwork/vet records from the previous 9 yrs. They denied the claim. I even took a video the day we put him down showing how aweful he moved and the pain he was in. I have to say GOOD LUCK! It seems if they fall over dead you are ok, if not-they do all they can to get out of it. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | She has not been put down yet. She is on stall rest and on meds to keep her comfortable. I called the insurance company over the weekend and left a voice mail. I have an appointment to take her in Thursday morning. |

So sorry about your mare.. |

| While I have never dealt with this company I have put in a mortality claim. My insurance company needed to talk to my vet before my gelding could be put down. They also checked to see if a vet that was affiliated with their company was available to do an exam. My company was great to deal with and they also required an immediate Necropsy that was done right after he was put down they didnt pay for that to be done. I agree that it is a long process and alot of waiting. |

| Sorry to hear about your mare, I worked for an agency and our procedure was for the client to notify our emergency claim line BUT we also took the vets recommendation into consideration on emergent cases. As long as you and the vet have proper documentation and information about the injury you should be ok. I will say this about mortality claims.....our company required a proof of loss statement and a bill of sale or copy of the cancelled check before issuing the claim check. Sometimes this can be aggravating but be prepared for them to ask for all that information. Sorry again about your mare, I hope you have been able to get ahold of your agent today. |

| I use American Equine Insurance group I have been with them for over 10 years. They are a great company to deal with. I have spoke with Wilkins insurance and he was very helpful and he recommended that I stay with my current company due to my horse having a minor colic episode.
