Hey girls and guys. It has been a little while since I posted about my rehab program questions and was just going to post an update.

Backstory: my gelding with a suspensory lesion on the LF was cleared by the vet to be exercised more on 7/13. I had been handwalking him 30 mins twice a day on the flat and a hill. So then I moved to walking him in hand saddled up for 5 days. Fast forward and I have ridden him at 5 mins walking under saddle for 5 rides, 10 mins for 5 rides, and 15 mins for 5 rides at a walk, collected and uncollected. I ride him two days in a row, then the third day I give him a break.

For the past 5 days I have been lunging him in a large pen, he is not constantly on a circle. 5 mins walk, 5 mins trot, 5 mins walk. Is this too slow of a progression? Too fast?

I honestly wouldn't be doing any circles for at least 2 months of continuous riding. Turning is hard on ligaments. I also wouldn't be riding him in an arena, as deep ground is hard on tendons and ligaments as well.

You need to go back to your vet, is the tendon healed? Any scar tissue? Prognosis? As this all goes into how I leg a horse back up.

Once my vet gives me the okay to start riding them, then I walk 1/4 mile, trot 1/2 mile, if they are not winded lope 1/2 mile, lope 1/2 mile on the other lead, trot 1/2 mile, then walk 1/4 mile.

If my vet wants something different, we have the conversation on his expectations and the goals of progression.
