I have a gelding that it just lacking some energy in his run. He's currently on a 12.8 sweet feed by triumph and renew gold. He gets 2 flakes of alfalfa and pretty much free choice hay during the day. Is there any supplementsatellite anyone recommends for race day performance, he's fine during practice and just riding. I was thinking something by oxygen or flair straps. Not looking to spend a fortune! He's a 1D-2D horse that is now running in the 3D range not cause he's not running the same pattern he's just loosing steam. Has been vetted, he's in great shape.

I am going to assume he has no physical issues since you said he was vetted, but in my experience there can always be hidden problems; mine most recently, equine asthma.

#1 I am not a fan of sweet feeds. I think there are better choices available. Here's a good article. http://www.barrelhorsenews.com/articles/horse-health/3655-your-hors...
#2 Make sure your feeding a mineral/salt supplement.
#3 I like feeding Red Cell pellets. They seem to give my mare an extra boost.
#4 There are so many pre-race boosters...it's all trial by fire...you can spend a lot of $$ figuring out what works for your horse. I have had luck with Oxy-gen products.

As long as he is sound then for a supplement I would HIGHLY recommend Product X by Animal Element. It makes them feel good and gives them energy! I put in capsules and take it daily and love it!

I give a small dose of Red Cell the day before and day of a run. Gives my mare some extra fire. Some horses, it's a bit too much. But it works for us.

He vets clean lameness wise, have you run a blood panel?

Lots of potential imbalances that could cause sluggishness.

How long ago was he clocking in the 1D and how quickly did he drop to 3D?

When you had him vetted, did you have him scoped? "Losing steam" is a classic symptom of a bleeder.

I would also bet my bottom dollar he is struggling somewhere respiratory wise -- likely bleeding.

I have tried alot of different pre race stuff on my bleeder (she does run on lasix) and she fires hardest on ABR respiratory supplement. I give 60cc an hour out and she fires way harder than without it.
