I have went back to work for another company after my incident the company I was employed by fired me before I was released to go back to work. W/C is still paying for medical procedures. They finally found the ruptured disc that's pressing on my spinal cord. Question is they want to inject for the 4th time in a different location now. Case nurse said if it helps then he will want to do surgery to repair it. If injection doesn't help they will not do surgery. Doesn't make sense to me. Any info greatly appreciated

I am a paralegal for a law firm and we deal mainly with personal injuries from car crashes. A lot of our clients have ended up having injections from their back injuries and sometimes told that is their last resort before surgery. Although our case against the at-fault driver is much better if someone has a surgery, our attorneys advise (especially to younger people) that back surgeries are often hard to get over and to make sure that is exactly what they want before they schedule one. Only you can decide how much, if any, this last injection will help you, and only you will be able to weigh the pros and cons of a surgery. Good luck with your decision! I really pray this 4th injection will help!!

Edited to add that sometimes they will do an injection and if it helps, they will do another injection in a different spot and if it doesn't help, surgery is the only other option Have never had one that if it helps that they will do surgery though.

hmmmmmmmmm I had the injections never helped - just a waste of time for me. I should have had the surgery sooner. Once I had the surgery, my life went back to normal.

I asked workers comp case nurse assigned to me if we could skip the injection and just go ahead and fix it and that's when she told me he would want to inject to see if it helps and if it does he would do surgery then

I find that strange, if the injection does work - it MAY bring down the inflamation.  I had the surgery when "it didn't" work.  I was told I could have the injections and over a period of 11 months the injury could heal itself without surgery.  I wanted that and believed that would work and it didn't. I had was schedule for my 3rd injection when the disk got worse at the point I could barely walk. I was in for surgery 3 weeks later, worse 3 weeks of my life! I had the surgery and immediately could walk with no pain and no meds afterwards. I look back and I could have saved 5 months of healing time if I just had the surgery.  That is my experience, I'm sure it may be different from others. I would think after 3 injections not working, surgery (by MRI scans) would support the way to go.  Good luck to you. I never want to go through that again!

My daughter had a ruptured disc that was pressing in to her spinal cord. Injections did not help at all. She could hardly walk and was in extreme pain. They did surgery in march and was cleared to ride again in june. She feels great and is back to riding and competing again.

I had my surgery mid may and starting riding early July. I felt I could ride immediately afterwards though but listen to the doctor. The only pain I felt was a sunburn feeling where the incision was. I could NOT believe how I went from barely walking to back doing my regular routine. It was amazing!

Same for me! I waited a year to have surgery. Tried injections and a host of other things. By the time I had surgery I was barely able to get up out of a chair and walk. The day after surgery I could have done cartwheels...what a waste of a year! Wish I had done it sooner!!

Do you have an attorney? My husband has gone through numerous back surgeries and had to deal with workers comp. Unfortunately, we think they mess around so much so they don't have to put out the money for surgery. In one instance he was on so much pain meds that if they would have done the surgery instead of messing around, they would have saved everyone the pain of drug rehab after surgery!

I seriously suggest an attorney, in our circumstance, they get things done.

They have paid for all injections so far but if dr suggest surgery it maybe a different story. I'm not drawing any workers comp money working everyday full time for a different company.
