Location: Texas | I've searched the product research forum and still don't really have an answer so I decided to post for other opinions. My mare has a slight cough sometimes when I exercise her. She has clear drainage and sounds congested at times when she's breathing harder. I have looked into Equipulmin, Oxygen Immunize, Cur-Ost, and Breathe Easy and don't have a clear choice. She isn't a bleeder, but feel like maybe mucus from allergies is bothering her. I don't want to stick her on a bunch crazy supplements, but I want to make sure it doesn't get worse. Thanks for any thoughts on supplements that might help her. |

| Oh boy...you're story is very familiar. I am going through the same thing...my mare had the same symptoms as yours except after a few months she would breathe heavy just standing in the stall...that's when I knew something was wrong. After a lot of tests; BAL, trach wash, CBC, blood work, etc...she was diagnosed with equine asthma. Right now she's on a round of steroids and bronchodilator to decrease the inflammation and break up the mucus. I also have started her on Cur-Ost Total and Immune...after receiving some great advice on here. My one piece of advice is; if you think something is wrong, trust your gut and call a vet and be pushy. Do not let it get out of hand. I know it cost $$, but I caught mine early by trusting my gut... |

Location: Alberta, Canada | I use cur-ost but have recently been dealing with Heather Benson at Simply Equine. they do hair analysis. Would highly recommend having her take a look at your horse. |

This! So far I've had two of mine scoped and both have it. I suspect everybody else does also, and am trying to formulate a reasonable plan. |

I haven't had her to the vet yet, since it seems mild. I'll probably take her just to be safe. I haven't heard of that issue you tagged in your post. I do live in east Texas so I'll do more research. It's not necessarily only when I exercise her does she cough. Sometimes she'll cough in her pen, but maybe it's not just allergies. Thanks for your input and for tagging that post. I'm just worried but sometimes because my horses are my babies I can be overprotective and if they blink wrong I'm worried. My husband always says, they're fine, why do you worry so much. So I try to be rational and not jump to conclusions and think the worst. |

I've not done the hair analysis before, but have considered that. Can that detect the disease they mention in the other post? |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | Cur-OST Hands down. I had a full exam done on my mare prior and she was diagnoised with Allergies, went the shot route for a year and then found Cur-OST. Thank goodness :) |

She isn't turned out on pasture. So I wonder could she still have it? She is only hand grazed most of the time. I don't know much about it, so I'll definitely do more research. |

Location: North Dakota | Unfortunately with respiratory issues there is usually more going on than you think. Get a scope done and go from there after seeing your vet. Cur-OST did give me back my horse and she has pretty severe damage to her lungs due to copd and she is able to compete harder than I ever could before with her.

I agree with seeing if there is something else is going on. However, if you are just looking for something to help clear her airways I would try some Wind-Aid. We give 30-60cc of it depending on the horse before a run. It is like a supped up cough drop! You could also try some Ventipulmin to see if that would help. Both work pretty good at clearing them up and helping them to breathe better! Cut-Ost is also worth a shot. We had great success with it on one of our horses who had bad allergies. |
