Cut a rubber mat to fit your rear tack and put it on top of the existing mat and it will fill the gap.

In the past trailer, I put old towels under it & then duct taped it down.
(THIS is why I do not like collapsible rear tacks, but so hard to find a trailer w/the permanent one
). Now I use the pool noodles & they work great for the bottom & inbetween the "panels" of the collapsible tack - I also don't like the dust getting on my tack. For the person who said don't use shavings: if you don't have shavings down & your horse pees, the pee will run into your tack then! YUCK! Been there, done that, prefer the shavings & pool noodles.
