I'm travelling to Houston 10/16-21 for work and looking for evening activities!  I'll be on my own for most of the nights and looking for some fun ways to experience the city.  I will have a rental car, so I can get out and explore.  TIA!

As am awe struck tourist ...

Make an evening of strolling a big shopping center known as the GALLERIA UPTOWN .... NEEDLESS MARKUP (NEIMEN MARCUS does have a lower basement of mark downs) it contains the most expensive restaurants ever ever ...
if you want to brag about having the most expensive steak of your life $50-80 and this does not include tips or drinks or other items ... ... check out the hi class DEL FRISCO'S DOUBLE EAGLE or the PAPPAS BROS ... total cost for one can end up $100-150 very easily
You will find these and many more in this link ...
It is fun to watch the rich and then do the Jack drive thru .. lol

Downtown Houston turns into a ghost town after the offices close ... but one thing that is fun ... is to go to the HYATT REGENCY HOTEL and play on the glass elevators .... go to the top and get off and look down at the ants in the lobby .... don't miss this ..... There is a rotating bar above the roof of the hotel also a rotating restaurant ... the elevator goes thru the roof to the rotating 2 floors ... 45 minutes per rotation ... you can view the skyline and downtown buildings .. very pretty after dark from the bar floor ....

An hour trip to GALVESTON ISLAND .. 50 MILES on I-45 S dead ends right at the beach ... drive down Seawall Blvd and enjoy the hotel lights and a couple of piers etc ... you are looking at the Gulf of Mexico which extends all the way over to the beaches of Florida ...
These have been old standbys for fresh seafood for me ... there has been so many hotels, condos etc built they may be closed so call to make sure of their hours ... https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=hills+restaurant+in+galveston+t...

FYI .. best living areas and safest are called southwest Houston which runs along Hwy 59 South towards Sugarland and Westhiemer st the Galleria is on ..
STAY WEST OF THE WEST LOOP OF 630 LOOP ...

Northwest Houston is west of I-45 coming into Houston and running to Westheimer St ...

My favorite tex mex Mexican food is at LOS TIOS ... long wait on Friday family nights ... the simple old standby for me is ... beef enchiladas with beans and rice on the side or beef fahitas ... Enjoy ... https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=los tios mexican houston&rflfq=1&rlha=0&rllag=29731073,-95526175,7725&tbm=lcl&tbs=lf:1,lf_ui:3,lf_pqs:EAE&fll=29.731073349999992,-95.52617525&fspn=0.5570620133224224,0.9299812242442442&fz=10&oll=29.73107335,-95.52617525&ospn=0.09302048688164177,0.14420228847720295&oz=12&qop=1&rlfi=hd:;si:

Tuff to advise you since it will be after most attractions are closed and you are not a day time tourist but you could seek out a driveby of the Houston Oilers // Astros stadium for a look see ... it is where the old Astrodome used to be ..

Stay away from Pasadena Tx ... it stinks to high heaven ... tire and oil refineries are all in that area .... if the wind blows from that direction ... all the air below the street lights appears to be pumpkin orange ... lol

Houston is a fun city to live in after you find your way around ...

What part of Houston are you traveling to and how big a circle from there do you want to explore?

I'm staying at the Sheraton Houston West.  I'll probably be in classes until 5pm each day, so I won't have a ton of time.
