Money Eating Baggage Owner Posts: 9586 Location: Phoenix	I was watching a Redmond Rock commercial and noticed the horses had their girth area clipped. Do any of you clip part of your horse's coat for winter riding? I never considered it but that might not be a bad idea... So who does it and where do you reside/what's your winter weather like?

Expert Posts: 2097 Location: Deep South	Lots of people full body clip down here (Alabama). We have very few days that are actually "wintery" compared to most of the country. The clipped horses are stalled and blanketed on the cooler days.

Namesless in BHW Posts: 10368 Location: At the race track with Ah Dee Ohs	Depending on their ckat, we will trace clip so.they cool out easier from their gsllop. They get a cooler when they come back and when they are back in their stalls they get their blankets back on.

Life Saver Posts: 10477 Location: MT	I have clipped where the cinch buckle is in the past. Helps keep those long hairs from pulling up in your cinch buckle!

I end up doing a trace clip on a lot of mine. I am in SD. It's cold here. I ride all winter, and my indoor is warm & humid. They do get sweat up pretty well even on a light workout if I don't clip them. A trace clip makes the cooling out process easier for them. Post ride I use coolers until they are dry, then blanket them and put them back out. I don't keep my horses stalled unless the weather is horrible. And when I say horrible I mean below 0 and windy, or a blizzard, or both. It's worked for me for several years.
