Unfortunately I'm in WI so it'd cost a bit more to get down there. I'm going to a guy locally (Bob Racich) and have another appt on the 14th. The first one was a bit rushed but at this next one he'll hopefully be able to take his time and then we'll inject his SI and hocks. We'll see I guess! Playing the waiting game.

I don't know if you'll see this as it's an older thread but I like to go back and read them sometimes. I live in MN and I have to tell you I've known Bob a lot of years and I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. He LOVES to inject for no reason (other than $$$) and he actually crippled a good friend of mines cutting mare by infecting her coffin joint with a dirty needle! Not trying to start drama or spread gossip as I am just trying to help. I'm sorry you're going through this with your gelding and can't really give any advice off the top of my head other than a soft tissue injury going undetected on ultra sound, IR, or something in hay or feed he randomly eats?
My advice would be to ditch Bob fast (plus injecting without knowing the exact cause can cover up the real reason long-term) and find a new farrier and vet and give them a fair shot. Don't try and find someone fancy, just someone who knows how to correctively shoe a horse without all the gimmicks and give it time, it takes a year to grow out a hoof and those angles can change drastically over that time. Also kissing spines would be another great thing to look at but I always start at the feet as they dictate a lot of whats going on above them. As for a vet Stillwater and the U are my top choices, Anoka is great but loves to spend my money!  If you happen to know what are his angles right now on both feet? Are they the same?

Β It's been awhile since I have posted here. I'm just throwing this out there for you. My horse has had several lameness issues. Saddle fit issues etc. Finally this fall the vet diagnosed him with kissing spines disease. He took several xrays of his back that clearly showed kissing spines involving 3 of the spines.

Thanks for the advice! I have a good farrier - angles are correct. He has great feet, I'll post pics if I ever get home. Hopefully at the next appointment Bob will go a little more in depth - I want to know the reason as to why he's sore, not just say he needs this, this and this injected. We'll see. Thank you for sharing!

Well we took him to Bob to get his hocks injected and I have to say I'm impressed! Still not 100% but a heck of a lot smoother than before. Feet are looking great and he's a big ol' fatty running around in the pasture. It's been so cold I haven't gotten a chance to take him out but judging by his huge floaty trot and rollbacks along the fence line, he's feeling good.

Finally figured it out. Took him in for an MRI and he has significant changes to his navicular and tendons plus what looks to be a fracture of his navicular bone. Not sure how this was missed by the other three vets. We've been treating him as a navicular horse anyway in how he is shod and he's been treated with Osphos among other things so I'm not sure there's much else we can do. He'll never run barrels again but may be sound for light trail riding. Dang horses..
