I've got my filly coming home from the trainer soon (first time to send a young one out but super excited about her) and I've got to get my brain wrapped around cold weather riding! Wind Chill of -4 this morning and my feet always freeze (wool socks and muck boots are the closest to comfortable I have gotten). So, all you brave souls in the north will be my reminders of not being a wimp!!
Mine just came home, and then the cold weather hit. I'm just telling myself that the break will do her good, LOL. She is only a 2 year old, so it probably will. |

If the wind is not blowing and it's not snowing I will ride in subzero weather, no problem.
It's been single digits/subzero here for going on 2 weeks and I've ridden every day.
It's not fun but I have a lot of young horses that can't afford a bunch of time off, so I tough it out.
What boots do you ride in?
My cut off now has become 0* as my finger tips start to turn white and lose feeling. This just started in the last year, not sure why?!
With these temps, I assume you guys ride indoors, right?????
If not, I am a wimp too!!! LOL |

I ride outdoors, but we haul to an indoor to rope. Which usually isn't much better air temp wise, but it makes a huge difference without the wind. |

LOL I have an indoor but it's not heated or anything. I prefer to ride outdoors as much as I can. Indoor riding gets boring so is reserved for the days I absolutely can't go outside. Or days I need to do some pattern work on my 3-4 year olds. Which is only 1-2 times a week.

Sometimes those indoor barns up here in the frozen North are colder feeling inside than it is outside when the sun is out and shining like today.
Of course, there are times they are warmer too. |
