Totally agree with making them move.  I had one turned out in a 10 acre pasture with an older horse.  They started getting hard to catch so I just kept after them and not letting them stop to rest.  The older horse was like 'catch me' 'I am tired of this already'.  After catching him, it wasn't as much fun to keep running anymore.

I don't chase horses. Mine get caught twice a day to be fed. You don't get caught, you don't eat. They learn pretty fast.

barreldude - 2016-12-18 6:12 PM I'd hop on a 4 wheeler and keep her running. The day she decides it's easier to just stand there is the day I'd stop.
I would do something like this. I bought a mare that refused to be caught. I ran her pretty hard one day until she was more than willing to stand quietly to be haltered. Must have left an impression because she stopped doing that.

Round pen work and what SloRide said!! Ive done that several times to several different horses and to this day, they enjoy being caught. I would not ride them every time though. Sometimes it would just be the round pen (or lunging if you dont have a round pen) that day to reiterate respect, some days it was only loving/brushing/doing treat stretches, or sometimes even just the patients pole and given a treat, then turned back out afterwards. They learn so quickly!
