Best barrel horses I have ever had have all been cow bred x on speed. The very best one came from Shomakers and was by Shoot Yeah out of a Docs Prescription mare.
The one I have now( this years prospect if you will) is a HBH & Doc Lynx on top , Snicklefritz Chex on the bottom. I LOVE  this horse.

After my last encounter with something that was all speed bred I am going back to my roots.

The only thing I don't like about him is that he's a HE lol, and I can't breed some run into all that cow.... So it will be a gamble to see if he has the heart to be a barrel horse

Most of these cutters are pretty small. Would some of you say the average size of these horses are 15hh and under? Just curious....seems like barrel racers and ropes ...heelers in particular are going back to smaller horses. I personally like a smaller horse.

I think you have a nice one on your hands! Lots of experience with multiple of those on your horses papers and they've all been super successful.

Agree.  My husband's heel horse is probably 14.1 or 2 and a stout little beauty.  I feel like an Amazon on him.  He's a grandson of High Brow Cat.

I've always ridden smaller horses, haven't had anything over 15.2 in years, my fastest horse was barley 14.2 out of an easily smashed stud unfortunately he died from colic. I like them around 15.1 the best but they can be small As long as they have a long stride

She is out Special Nu Spot, by Spots Hot, 2nd dam is Nu I would.  Dam to my mare is a half sister to Special Nu Baby, who I believe set an NCHA earnings record last year. She's got a pretty strong maternal side for cutting, I got a good deal on her a year ago when I bought her.

Oh my, you have a special girl on your hands!! I know a lot more about cutting horses than barrel horses (I'm learning from y'all tho!) and your girl makes my mouth water

For me little quick horses are harder to ride than larger full-bodied ones.

I would say "average" sized is 14.2 or UNDER.  MANY of them are under 14 hands.  And a lot are 14.1

That colt I'm riding is already 15 hands he will be 15.1 probably when fully grown!

I do love him!
Do you know what the name of the horse Cheryl Laws ran in the futurity (I think) was?  I'd be interested to see what kind of mare that horse was out of.  Of course Nico Suave has been super fun to watch and recently won the American qualifier at Glen Rose.  Neat, neat horse!

She placed on RunAway Play gun

Thank you! And I stand corrected in my previous statement. I misunderstood the announcer and thought he said that horse was by Playgun too. That's what I get for trying to work during the BFA webcast! LOL Thanks again!

The sire to this horse is full brother to Bill Cole, Oceans Runaway and Wave Carver. I have several Bill Cole. They don't know they're big horses :) they turn like little cow ponies

I noticed that.  I tried to buy a Bill Cole colt a few years back and didn't get it done.  Wish I had!

My husband prefers smaller horses to heel on. Between 14 and 15 hh and not over 15.
