My horse is incredibly flat backed, round, with very wide shoulders, etc. Your typical "cow horse" type. I finally found a perfect fitting Caldwell Saddle, which fits him like a glove. I currently have a 1" Wade Pad, which I love, but I'm having a lot of sliding and slippage. No opinions on saddles please, I just need help finding a Pad that will help with the sliding! Since my saddle fits perfectly, I don't know that he "needs" a CSI, but open to any opinions and experiences with a similar type horse with the same problem.

I think a thinner pad would be the place to start. I really love my 1/2" 5 star under well fitted saddles. 1" is awfully thick IMO for anything but roping where the back is taking some pretty good concussion, but rope saddles are built to accommodate the additional padding.

I've been thinking a 1/2" 5 Star as well. Thank you for your input! Is the 1/2" plenty of support with a good fitting saddle?

I agree about the 5 Stars, I would try 3/4 or a 1/2 inch, since your saying the Caldwell fits your horse like a glove you dont need so much padding and a 1" pad is just to much padding..I love my 5 Stars, I use a 1/2 inch pad with my Caldwell Pro Max..

Ditto to all of the replies!  I ride a 1/2 inch 5-Star with my Shiloh Contender on my cow-bred gelding....LOVE IT!

Yes, a 1/2" 5 Star would be in a treed saddle.  I can't speak for other pads since they are not in the same catagory as 5 Stars.
If I can help you any, please let me know.
