I don't spend money on tack ever :-/.  I see it as a luxury I can't afford really.  I drool over Heritage Sets and anything Joanna Parker posts on fb but I just can't stomach payign the price for it.  I'm always like yes that black croc set would be amazing but so would a bottle of legend or some PHT leg wraps.  I live vicariously through people that can afford it all for their horses though.  If I could afford it I'd dang sure have me some fringe no matter my age.

If you want fringe, go get some fringe. It's all about personal taste. I personally don't like fringe or the new fashion tack. I like my stuff understated, but I can appreciate workmanship of the bling tack.

I am good friends with a lady who is one tough barrel racer here in Georgia. She is over 50 and loves to look good! She rides in fringe and blingy everything. She cuts off the clock and looks great doing it! Get you some fringe girl.

If it makes you happy go for it.  Life is short.  I personally don't like it.  I just like plain stuff.  But if you love it then you need to get it.

I say go for it! I agree that tack is a way to express yourself, I am known for my obnoxious colored polos and reins and trying to match my shirt to them. I love bright colors. I have a very basic roping breastcollar and headstall because I cant afford a nice one but I would buy one in a heart beat. I am late/mid 20s and I would never look down on someone regardless of age. I might envy them.

There are certain sets that are too much for me but there are some really tasteful sets out there. One day I will rock the fringe.

I personally don't feel confident enough in myself or my horse yet to purchase one.
However, If I was running 1D times you bet I would buy the flashiest, most beautiful fringed breastcollar! Kind of like a: "Check my pony out!!" Lol

I'm in my mid 20s and I think that some of those fringe breestcollar look pretty good and snazzy, but they're not my thing. If you like something though then you should buy it and show it off, especially if you can buy a nice one and win money with a even nicer horse! ;)

I never really thought that someone who isn't winning the race or isn't young can't have fun tack. Like others have said I think tack is an expression of your personal taste and style, not a status symbol. If we followed those rules for other things none of us should be buying fancy rigs or good quality saddles unless we are winning and young. Buy and use what you like!

I bought fringe for my horse, I'm almost 40 and this is his first year hauling and all I want to do is survie.  LOL.  But might as well look good doing it right?

OH MY GOD...everyone has been so supportive and FUNNY!! I LOVE this..".all I want to do is SURVIVE!"!

I wish I could reply to ALL of you who bothered to comment...thank you so much!! I KNOW I shouldn't care what other people think, lol...I guess I didn't realize my insecurity was showing...! I'm trying to buy a Heritage Brand tack set on FB, no fringe, but if they don't accept my offer, I''m totally going with the FRINGE on an inexpensive Showman set...I wish I knew how to post pics on here, I bet ya'll would like it! THANKS again, everyone!

edited to add...the heritage set is actually about 4,000 rhinestones, so, either way, I guess I'm just a bling gal!

I like the fringe thing but don't think it's very practical. I'm not going to spend the money on something like that when I'm afraid to get it too dirty. Just doesn't seem like a smart investment.

Martha Josey always says you might not win the barrel race but you can look good doing it. Or something like that. It's a hobby go have fun and buy whatever it is that you like. I wasn't that crazy about the fringe but now that I see it more and more I kinda like it too. My daughter's set has held up for almost 2 years now and still looks good.

I've always hated to see beautiful hard-working horses dressed up with fringe, beads, bling, tassles...... and tape on their noses.  I do love pretty colors of polo wraps though.
They serve a purpose and don't get in their way.

I've been looking at the fringe too.... and I'm in my mid forties...
I think there are some very classy looking breast collars and others seem like they would fit better in a strip club than a barrel race...
I have a couple of horses that would look great in classy fringe (one mare that would probably pick the stripper fringe if given the choice) and a gelding that just could not pull that off.

Go get you some fringe, but stay classy!! Have fun with it!!

You know, Laura's mare, the one that is so hormonal she could set up shop in the red light district, I'm thinking she could work some stripper fringe like nobody's business. . . . .

Seriously, I'm like everyone else---your horse, your money, your business---you go girl!!

I used to feel this way. I am still looking for "the horse" for me and I've ran maybe two times in the 1D. I had this gorgeous 5J tack set that I paid alot for but felt like I shouldn't use it because I wasn't setting the world on fire. I felt like I'm such a nobody and was embarrassed to be flashy. I finally said screw it and ran my 3d horse proudly in that set!! Now I never run in a jackpot without dressing up my horses! My friends love to laugh at me because I'm such a tack whore with my bling and turquoise. One day I know I will find that horse but in the meantime I'm going to enjoy running my current mount and blinging all over the arena!

If it's going to make you feel good, who are you hurting by using it? USE IT!
