I am planning to lease out one of my broodmares this year.  I'm sure someone on BHW has either been the leasor or leasee of a broodmare in the past, so I'm just looking for advice on how to go about this.

The price has already been established and the price includes the mare's insurance premium for mortality and med/surg coverage, which I will make sure is paid by myself and the policy is in my name.

I'm working on a contract, but need suggestions for the contract.

TIA

Be sure to write a exit plan into your contract. If it doesn't work out for one or both of you, you need a fair way to get out of the contract before the agreed time.

I am leasing two of mine out this year as well! How do you come up with a price? Is there a standard price out there?

Correct me if Im wrong (I think there's another thread on here that talked about this) but I think usually the standard "price" is usually under $500 because they're feeding and caring for your mare for the 15+ months and that includes vet, farrier dental ect. I borrowed a mare from a friend this year and her horses are all insured so I didn't have to worry about that part. I fed, did dental work, vet care (accident prone mare lol), farrier work ect and just kept the mare and mare owner in best interest. As a result I got a beautiful colt out of a great bred mare and the owner didn't need to worry about her all those months, pay for anything, and hopefully I can make a name for the colt and the mare as a result (maiden mare) so everyone wins :
