And why would you say that? GE 100% silicone Adhesive will sick to any service. There are many products that can do this job but that most important thing is preparation. With out a clean and dry surface almost all products will fall. What ever product you use it should be UV protected. 3M silicone body sealant IMO would be excellent for this.
you may want to call every trailer manufacture in the country and tell them that then.
Your smart ass remark still does not answer the question. Why do you think that you should not use silicone adhesive? Have you actually looked at any product research or have you any experience in the field or are you just repeating something you heard and you think you know. Both products that I stated are widely used in the trailer manufacturing. GM uses 3M silicone body sealant in many of their products so maybe you should call their engineers and tell them you know better and shouldn't use it. |

Jb you are correct!
1D soon thanks for the expert advice. I'm sure had I called every trailer company and asked them "how" or "what" they used I would've gotten an earful of its commercial grade blah blah and I'd need to bring my trailer in so THEY could fix it and charge me a crap ton of $.
Pretty sure I can research, read and apply knowledge. It's called self sufficiency. Newsflash, there ARE still people in this world that can do things for themselves.

you can do things for yourself till hearts content.
but if you're using the wrong product to do it yourself, are really that much further ahead?
And Hoot, the reason you don't use silicon is because that's not what it's for..
The Dicor self leveling is what ever **** trailer manf. int he country uses because(NEWSFLASH) that's what it's designed for.

Who told you it was incorrect to use ALUMINUM silicone? The trailer manufacturer? You do realize you use products everyday that would be considered off label use. Take Dawn for instance, it's purpose is to wash dishes but you can also use it to wash your hands, bathe dogs to remove fleas, or oil from animals trapped in oilspills...all off label uses that work.
There's more than one way of doing things, there's more than one product available for those things.

Dicor Self Leveling sealant on the seams.
You can thank me later.
Also, don't do wat BHUSA said.
Since you and BHUSA are taking about the same product, you are just farting in the breeze , too? Judging asking. |

Location: Buffalo, TX | I don't have time to read the replies, but we have sealed aluminum roofs for over 13 years and here's how our shop does it...you have to acid wash the roof first and rinse it...that will open up the pores...right after it dries, use Plasti-Cote Alkyd Fibered roof coating. A gallon is around $50. It's hard to find the aluminum color anymore, so you might have to use white. This is a foolproof method and we charge $600 to do a horse trailer roof like this, so you save a lot doing it yourself, it's time consuming and you have to get it done all in the same day. |

Location: North MS | I just replaced the sealant on 1/2 of my trailer this summer (with a 6 month old baby I was doing the best I could). I first removed ALL the old sealant down to bare metal. Easiest done with an 80 grit flap disc on an angle grinder. I tried a brass wire wheel- took forever. I use an angle grinder to trim my horses hooves during the summer when they get rock hard so I gave it a try. After this I wiped down with acetone. Next I peeled back about 2 feet of eternabond tape and applied with plastic paddle I use when I make my vinyl decals. I don't know its real name. about 3" wide and 4" tall. Just smoothes the tape into the crevices and over bends. One side of my trailer was leaking horribly and now no leaks! I will do the other side this summer. Shouldn't take very long since I got the kinks worked out. Material costs including acetone and grinder flap wheel- Maybe $150 at the most. |
