Lived to tell about it and will never do it again Posts: 5409	I know that you said that you take the keys out of the ignition but is it possible that you have one of those odd ball vehicles that you can take the keys out without it being in the off posisition? I would make sure that the steering wheel in locked, that way you know that the ignition is in the off posistion. Are any of the uplift switches flipped on? Just some random thoughts.

I've commented on lots of things (go back and read). Several folks suggested the alternator. Both shops have told me the alternator is fine. Someone also asked about lights getting dimmer at stop lights (indicating a possibly alternator problem). I explained that that does not happen. Someone asked about leaving the horse trailer hooked up ; I said that it does not stay hooked up. Folks asked about aftermarket things that were installed. I said we haven't installed anything after market. Someone said the battery might have froze. I answered with adding that the truck is kept in a heated garage. Someone suggested that an interior light could have been left on. I answered that no lights have been left on and nothing has been left plugged in (like a cell phone charger). Someone asked how long/far we drive it. I answered that. (10 miles one-way minimum) Someone asked if it was a gas (which I already stated in my first post) but I answered again. (yes, it's a gas) In addition: The hood light is not on. The glove box light is not on. We don't really have much for extra on the key chain. We have the lock/unlock/starter key fob that came with the truck, and the one key for the house and one key for my work. The keys are removed each time; they don't stay in the ignition. I specifically asked both shops about the bolts on both the alternator and the battery (making sure none were loose) and both stated those are fine.

Have you checked the wires leading to/from the alternator(or you mechanics on here, ARE there outside wires?)? I haven't read all of the posts but if you bought the truck used then I'm wondering if the prior owners may have had a problem with rats chewing the wires during the winter. The Comeback Kid Posts: 1564 Location: lost in missouri	Your dealer is telling you the truth about the new vehicles. Any vehicle has a constant draw on the battery if they have a clock. Now add with the new vehicles all the fancy stuff they now have and they have a major draw on them. You need to make a point of starting the vehicle at least weekly to let it charge. Dealerships are even supposed to start the vehicles on the lots that are in invenotry and let them charge so the batteries dont get drained. GM now even has a policy in place that they will not replace under warranty a battery on a vehicle within so many days of being sold unless the dealership can prove they have charged the batteries regulary while the vehicle was in inventory. On our new truck that we use just to pull i make it a point to drive it at least once every other week to go get groceries or to work. It should be able to sit however for at least two weeks without draining. Makes me wonder if the radio is drawing to hard.
