OK, so me and my husband are having a big predicament with our baby girl #2. For a long time I wanted to name our second girl after my grandmother, Clarice, because I'm her only grandchild and I adored her growing up. After finding out we were having a girl I started thinking of names that would honor her but I've realized how narrow our "liked list of names" is, two to be exact; Claire Rose (husband likes) and Clara Mae (I like). My husband and I think they are nice and pretty names...But we don't know if they feel right. Kinda like when you see a pretty dress at a store but when you try it on it looks all wrong on you? Or when you see a pink fringe tack set all decked out from Heritage Brand that looks gorgeous but you know you'd never buy it because it's not your style? Lol it feels like that.
I'm currently a little over 5 weeks from my due date and we've been talking about other names that we love but they don't honor my grandmother at all and that makes me feel bad, especially since I already told my parents of my original plan.
Forgive me for the long post but I really don't know what I should do? Any advice would be great!

Can you use her name as a middle name on your baby? My husband wasn't feeling the name I wanted. My family has men named Bates through the generations. My great uncle was named Bates but was killed in WWII. I wanted that name to continue, but we compromised and my son was named Remington Bates.

Why not instead of Claire Rose do Clara Rose? It just flows a little more to me. Also, I wanted to name my little girl after my great grandma but my husband didn't like the first name so we compromised and we had a different first name but used my great grandmother's middle name as our baby's middle name as well. Do what feels right :)

I was just thinking about that! I'll call my parents to find out what her middle name was. For some reason my husband doesn't like Clara exactly, reminds him of a unpleasant girl in his past, which I can respect.

Go with something totally different ... your unborn child is talking to you..

KAROLANNE

KELLYANNE

Would eliminate the need to have a middle name ..
or split the names into two ... make her .. her own person!!
and her last name will change once she gets married ..

Had the same issues when I was expecting. My mother told me to pick 3 names and when I saw the baby I would know the name he was supposed to have. I picket 3 VERY different names and when the dr handed him to me I didn't even realized what I said until I saw the videos after. But I called him just what fit him.

I had the name Hatleigh Renee picked out. We were going to call her Hattie. I had blankets and burp rags, and backpacks and all sorts of stuff with the name plastered all over it.
When I had her the name didn't fit. We named her Isabella Grace. We call her Izzy and sometimes Gracie. My mom was mad because she's the one who did all the embroidery. But in the end she agreed that Izzy looked like an Izzy.

Hattie was such a girly name. I'm glad she's Izzy. It fits her really well when she plays in the mud LOL

Looking into middle names is a great idea OR

You could look into other versions. You have done that a little with Claire, but maybe try to do it with the meaning or with a version from a different language.

For instance the Italian Chiara (or Kiara) is pretty but different but still means the same thing. Claret, Claribel, Clarinda. The original Latin is pretty and unique too, Claritia.

Or shorten it not from the C like most do but from the L or the R. Could she be a Larice or a Lissa or a Risa?

I really like Clarice except it reminds me of Silence Of the Lambs. I never had children but wish my Mother's name could have had a stronger presence in my large family (her name was Wathena) and wish my Father's sister's had been passed on (Leona...why didn't they call ME Leona!?!!)'

I agree with coming up with a few choices and let your little girl tell you what she will be called when she gets here.

THIS. But sorry, now I see Clarice isn't a choice.  Silence of the Lambs just wrecked it.

Another idea, my little brother has my mom's maiden name as his middle name. Pretty cool and a neat non-traditional way to honor a family member.

Lol yep, there is definitely that movie, Silence of the Lambs, but honestly I think of "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" because the little fawn that Rudolph liked was named Clarice.
UPDATE: I found out from my dad that her middle name is Mary and so far that's been a lot easier to come up with names that we like, even just from talking about it this morning.

Wait until you meet her. She may not be who you are expecting.

She wasn't the bad guy in SOTL but all's I can here is Anthony Hopkins rolling Claaricce over his tongue. Still think it's a gorgeous name. But I do agree, she may tell you that she is someone completely different from whatever name you choose.

Chandler was Chandler whether he was a boy or a girl. (I didn't find out---guess I'm old fashioned!!) If he had been a girl I wanted to use my grandma's name, but she made me promise not to do that to a baby---her name was Velma Pearl!! So I started thinking of ways to use her maiden name of Sinclair for a girl. When God gave us Chandler, she was thrilled with his name so it all ended well. (We went to the hospital with some names of both girl and boy, so I agree that your little girl may match one of the names you've chosen the minute you meet her.)
